Brake caliper issue

Hi guys just a heads up, on Monday whilst driving home from work I was cut up on a round about in Caerphilly south wales. This forced me to take another route home , and I am glad to say how lucky I feel that I did. As I had to take the incorrect exit off the roundabout in question I decided to pop into the local petrol station to check my tyre pressures. Whilst doing this I noticed my N/S/F brake caliper was not in contact with all of my brake disc. The bolt at the upper location on my caliper was missing and had allowed the caliper to slide off the disc. I have had to buy a new fitting kit as the slider which receives the bolt had been cro:ssed threaded by the previous person who had worked in the location. I have had a new gearbox fitted this year and am not sure if they had to remove the brake calipers to carry out the gearbox replacement or it was when the garage fitted new brake pads before I purchased the rrs last December. So basically if you have had any work done recently on your brakes please check the torque on the caliper retaining bolts. I took pictures which I will try and add to my gallery for viewing.

All the best
Mike Thumbs Up

No strange noises or loss of braking noticed to be honest. the only thing i noticed was a couple of days earlier my brake pad wear warning flashed up on the info screen for a few seconds and then disappeared, it did not indicate a problem as it went straight off and did not come back on.

It's a somewhat less considered blessing to have the modern ABS systems that we do for such potential instances too. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thank god for Bodsy's Brake Bible Bow down

I'd recommend all to print off and use if doing DIY.

Cheers everyone for your replies, I am lucky that I spotted the issue when I did. What worries me though, was on the Sunday evening I picked my daughter and her friend up from a show in Cardiff bay and drove them to Swansea for a birthday get together with friends . It was pouring down all day and crappy drizzle all evening, the M4 was horrible to drive on.

Kind regards
Mike Thumbs Up

PS I have my copy of Bodsy's brake bible in my garage, where it has been for quite some time.
I think we all owe him a few beers. Next time your in sunny south wales give us a heads up for a few beers..

Sorry to revive this old thread, but do you happen to know what the correct torque settings on our caliper bolts should be?
Mine is a 2012 RRS S/C (5.0L) with Brembo High Perf brake calipers.
Does 275Nm (202 lb ft) sound about right?
Thanks in advance.

I would message Bodsy or Discomike, i am sure they would know the correct torque settings for the bolts you are after.
I just tightened my bolts up until i was happy that they would not come adrift again, but that torque seems high for the caliper bolts, or do you mean the carrier which the caliper bolt onto. The carrier bolts onto the front hub and then caliper fits onto that.
