Whirring noise.... Help please .

Hi guys . My new HSE with 2000 miles has a whirring/whining noise when cold only that sounds like it's coming from the engine bay in front of the passenger seat . Goes off when the car Is fully warmed up but I'm sure it wasn't there last week. Any ideas ? It stops when the engine stops via the auto stop/ start .

Probably a stupid answer, but I spent a few days tracking down a whirring noise in the cabin which turned out to be the fridge unit.

Mine (on 2000 miles) has a sort of whistle/whine when cold that disappears after a while running and has been doing it pretty much from day one. I haven't been too worried, but am open to extreme alarm and demands for help from the dealer ... Laughing

My SDV8 has a similar noise, but from the driver side from what I can figure. I'll be interested to hear your dealer's diagnosis if you could share it later. Thanks.

If the outside temperature is below 5c then it could be the FBH that helps warm the engine faster to reduce emissions, I'm not sure if RRS2 has this, but it is often something that causes queries from those new to an RRS1, especially when they also see whitish smoke coming from the front of the car (it's the FBH exhaust!) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If you are using heated/cooling seats then you will hear whirring noise as they are based on fans rather then heating elements.

I was just looking at this topic and thought it would be good if all members had what version of the RRS they owned in their Sig. As there are many variants it is hard to reply with specific info. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I have this. It's not the FBH nor the viscous fan. It sounds like a noisy bearing on a small fan inside the climate system - a slight constant speed whistle. It comes when the car is cold and climate is set to auto. I can render it inaudible by turning the fan speed down to the lowest level - one notch above off. The noise ceases when the car has warmed up.

My guess is that it's a cheap component somewhere. I've decided to treat is as one of those things to put up with. I know, you shouldn't have to on a car at this price, but ... but ... I really can't be running to and from the dealer for this, and it might wear off as the car gets a few more kms under its belt.

Not knowing the posters engine, I did not give any useful info in my previous post, but if it is a turbo you often hear turbo whine when the motor is cold . M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I don't think it's that. The noise does not vary as you might expect with turbo speed. It's more like the constant noise you used to get from a knackered fan on an old PC. Another thing I wondered was whether a gate in the ventilation system is set closed or partially open when cold so that the air whistles through a gap, and the gate changes position when the car has warmed up, causing the whistle to stop.

It's not a seat ventilation fan nor a cubby box fridge - my car has neither.

Mine is an SDV8 with about 2,600 km on the clock.
