Do you have a clock on the dashboard?
If so, you may have had a software update which puts the aux heater light on when the lights are on. Bodsys Brake Bible

my car is a 2005 plate so i guess when they made my car they put the auxillary heater light there but in the more recent updates you have the light headlight symbol there....just wanted to know what does it mean when that light comes on, what is the car doing?

On a SC, don't think y have an aux heater.
If y have the clock on the dash, then that light now just show when the lights are on. Unless the car has never had a software update, which would be a bit odd Bodsys Brake Bible

That light was never actually used for the aux heater, and with a petrol vehicle, you don't have one anyway (excepting the 0.000001% chance that someone has fitted an aftermarket one!). Wink

Your pic confirms you've had the COD (Clock on the Dash) update, which, as one would deduce from the name, places the time in the corner of the screen (this was not a feature on earlier vehicles, being much complained about). This is achieved by flashing firmware for the later instrument pack version; the later instrument clusters have a lights-on indicator in place of the aux heater light, and thus a side effect of the update is to bring the FBH light on with the headlights. GAP Diagnostics have written a special firmware version which rectifies this. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Gangnam, just humour me.....

Turn the lights switch to off instead of auto. Does the FBH light go off? Then Turn it to side lights, not auto, does the FBH light come back on....? Bodsys Brake Bible

the light appears intermittently with or without the lights on - this comes on during the day too.

even if the headlights are on it won't make a difference....there must be a reason into why land rover would fit this light?i even have puddle lights under my wing mirrors which i have never seen on a 2005 range rover sport model

Thud

Gangnam, the light was fitted for a reason - for the aux heater as you say, however, in the end LR decided not to utilise it. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
