2008 RRS TDV8 Will not start....with a twist!

Hi,

Had a look through previous posts and lots of similar info however new thread asking for any help.

2008 TDV8 RRS. Couple of not starting problems earlier in the year, had full service in July this year and alternator replaced plus new battery. Still a few niggling non starts if doors open for length of time or car not used for a few days but nothing major. Did go back to garage however diagnostics showed nothing wrong, did a full reset and things seemed ok.

Yesterday, would not start, but did on using jump leads then fine. First real cold night weather wise so presumed may have caused issue. Noticed clock showing 0000 and sat nav had reset to default settings.

This morning (of course this is the wife's car who is due to start jury service this morning!) would not start. Jump leads no help. Battery seems ok but have currently got on charge.

The twist, after trying to jump start, remove the key from the ignition but all dash board lights keep flashing and constant clicking sound (like trying to turn over), and headlights flickering. This only stops if get out of the car and lock with keyfob. When locking the indicators flash as normally do.

Garage cannot collect until tomorrow so am hoping the battery recharge will allow the car to be driven to garage.

Apologies for long winded details and apologies if I there is a previous post I have missed but would appreciate any suggestions?

Thanks as always in advance!

SPJ

all that flashing and clicking points to a battery issue. the fact that you've only had the alternator and battery for half a year point to a drain issue, in other words something is maybe draining the battery when the car is off.
also, how often do you start the car during the day, and what is the typical trip length? It may not be getting a sufficient run in order to recharge the battery. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

I would check battery terminals to see if they are tight, then check alternator, to see if everything is connected as it should be. Also check connections on the starter motor. Those would be my first 3 items to check. Thirdly, join a breakdown recovery company. A must if you own a RRS. Thumbs Up

Good luck checking the connection on the alternator. Takes a bit of digging to get to. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
