Rear Camera Wash

I seem to remember reading that the latest cars - hell, mine is all of 8.5 months old - have a rear camera wash so that when you wash the rear screen, the reversing camera get squirted as well. Given how much dirt the back of the car collects, this is a worthwhile modification.

First of all, am I correct or have I been on a flight of fancy?

Second, has anyone gone through the exercise of retrofitting it?

If you can take a picture of what it looks like, that would be very helpful. Mark

That's correct and it works very well! Camera resolution is also greatly improved - particularly noticeable in the dark/low light.

Pictures attached.

Thanks, getting my bearings, the yellow is presumably the number plate, I need to compare with what I have. Mark

Yes indeed. I think the fixing is exactly the same to be honest. I have a 15MY L405 which I always wondered why the camera fixing was so big for the relatively small size of the camera lens. Now makes sense if this was in development.

Not sure how easy it will be to retrofit as it obviously needs a pipe.

FYI it works on the same cycle as the rear screen wash.

Remember that the rear wiper and washer system was also changed for 16MY. So this could be related too.

So what do you think is needed, a new camera? Presumably, if it has a built in washer jet, this connects to the rear screen wash using a Y-connector so that water pumped across goes to both.

Fine and relatively easy to do - the cameras are about £150 - but if there has been a general resolution upgrade, the changes may be much more involved and maybe impossible at sensible cost. A change to the camera controller, for example, would be one such.

What I need is access to a parts catalogue... Mark

Yes possibly just the camera but like I said they completely changed the design of the rear wiper and the washed system for 16MY. Before you buy, I'd check that this isn't completely dependent on this new system.

Makes you wonder why they changed so much, the existing wash-wipe is pretty effective. Cost cutting? Mark

Allegedly the new one is more effective and 'more modern' according to the brief.

Rear Wiper System Blade and Arm Improvement
16MY introduces a new Rear Wiper System to both improve the look to the Rear Wiper System in addition to providing an improved quality of wiping action. Improved pressure distribution helps the rubber wiper element to make better contact with the screen throughout the arc. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled
