Bought my RR sport on Saturday.
I pointed out to the dealer that the high gloss black centre console (cup holder slider as well) is heavily scratched. He said most are!

Does anyone know of a way to remove these scratches?
A mild abrasive/polish?

Go back a tell the Dealer Principle that you are not prepared to accept a premier vehicle in the condition that it has been sold to you in. Tell him that you expect the damage to be put right or you will reject the vehicle.

You have not bought an old banger from the auctions. An L494 should be sold to you in as new showroom condition.

Just my thoughts. Anyone else care to offer their opinion?

How bad is it ? Surely it can't be that bad ?

It doesn't sound good from what your saying any photos ?

Is the car new or secondhand? Typical smart-arse comments from a useless fat, dumb and happy dealer.

I'm afraid the piano black finish is a nightmare. Even if perfect from new, it will not stay that way. I mentioned it to an LR valeter at Goodwood and he pulled a face, admitting it was a problem. The only way high gloss black is ever durable is if it's made of something like glass. A normal paint finish is simply not hard enough.

The message is clear. If you are specifying a new RRS, do NOT go for the piano black option... Mark

They need to replace the panel. I had this issue on my BMW X5 there were a few panels scratched and I was told it's a second hand car and to expect this. The car had a spec that I could simply not afford to miss so I raised it with the dealer principal and all panels were replaced (cost them around £1100 apparently!).

I've tried various polishes on the exterior gloss and inside piano black....

Nothing seems to work to well... I did try a bit of Autoglym SRP which has fillers and it sure made the piano swirls look better

Keep hearing people suggest Poor boys Black hole though....may be worth a try 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's

As Mark says. It needs to be treated very gently, wiped over with a soft damp cloth.
Should definitely be changed though. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

I remember seeing the piano black on a showroom car and the scratches were shocking to say the least. I ended up with grey oak which is a no cost option, looks fantastic, and doesn't scratch. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

I had it on my first RRS, it got quite scratched. However I still like it so specced it again on my second.  Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more...

Mine was perfect on handover and still good after a month or so ...
There was a nasty scratch on the aluminium 'hockey stick' next to it, however ... That is getting replaced, along with a faulty roof rail gutter insert thing ...
So, get it sorted - the car must be perfect on handover!

this removes scratches from the exterior gloss with the crimson lake country pad on a DA polisher
