If you just drain the oil by undoing the drain plug, only about a half (to a quarter) of the oil will come out. To completely drain it, the gearbox needs to be run and cycled through the gears. The spec for the ZF 6HP26 (as fitted to the 2.7 diesel), has a capacity of 9.5 litres.

It's fill to spill as long as it's at the correct temperature (and engine running, and you've cycled through the gear positions) - around 35 degrees is ideal IIRC. Around 5l is normal though.

BlueIcePlus - if you are going to work on your own vehicle you need to read the workshop manual first so you know what you are doing. The way you are going about it you will do damage to your vehicle.

I used Tim Fry Landrovers in Cheltenham. They seem pretty good. |

I had a mega flush on the gearbox yesterday arranged by gilly, the mega flush removes all oil from gearbox and puts in about 11-12 litres |
