Warped Discs on (my) new '08 RRS... Dealer liable?

Hello all, I bought my RRS just over two months ago and noticed a judder on braking; I mentioned this to the dealer when I had to get the SatNav repaired under warranty last week who said to get the repair centre to have a look. The repair centre diagnosed warped brakes, so I asked the dealer to pick up the cost of new discs and pads, but they've come back with an offer to do the work for £150... Opinions please - stand firm or just pay up? I think the Sale of Goods Act would be on my side...(?) Thanks all.

Stand firm Thumbs Up

If it was a car I had sold, I would put new discs and pads on it, regardless of who was paying.

I wouldn't expect them to pay dealer prices to replace them, but OEM parts are massively cheaper, and labour costs are not huge either Thumbs Up

Thanks Mikey - so just to clarify, when you say "regardless of who was paying ", do you think I should go back to the dealership, decline their offer and ask again for them to pick up the cost? Cheers.

Yes, they should pick up the full cost. A new set of aftermarket discs and pads will cost less than £150, I expect they are chancing their luck to retain (or even increase) their profit on the car Whistle

I had the same Richy (out of curiousity, noticing you're in Essex, what dealer was it that you got it from?).

Had new brakes all round when I bought it.. I did ~1000 miles in mine and they were warped to hell in that time. I got told "you must be driving it hard!"... not compared to the Focus RS I part-exed for it, in fact, it was part of the reason I bought the Range Rover.. just to "wallow around in" as such. After some umming and ahhing the dealer replaced them again reluctantly, but alas, after closer inspection, they also replaced one of my front callipers too at the same time (they never told me they had).. touch wood, they've been good ever since and has now done ~9000 more miles including towing a car on a trailer a few times. Maybe I don't drive it so hard afterall Wink

I wouldn't let them get away with it personally.

Cheers..

Ian

Cheers Ian / Dan - sent the dealer an email this morning quoting SOGA and just got a call back confirming they'll pick up the full cost (albeit with some tosh about them being "entitled to ask for a contribution" blah blah blah). Appreciate the advice/support re standing firm, anyway. And on the brand - I think they use EuroParts for their work, so should be reasonably decent parts. (At least they shouldn't judder any more). Cheers again.
