Loss of acceleration

Hello
Can anyone help please?
Yesterday my car started to lose acceleration when setting off from junctions or after slowing on bends. It got worse as the afternoon went on.
There has been not fault code on the dash and no warning lights.
My husband followed me home yesterday and said that it was putting out some black smoke when setting off.
Once it is driving along, it drives fine, just when starting off, there is this delay.....well it is more like, there is nothing there at all, no acceleration even with the foot to the floor, then it slowly builds up then it takes off and runs ok.

I live in France and the nearest LR dealer is an hour away, if I take it in, they WILL NOT do a diagnostic check there & then, I will have to make an appointment and go back. If I telephone, it is difficult to explain due to the language, talking French is easy, talking technical French over the phone is not, even for the French. So if I ring first, I will still have to drive it there & back and return at another date.
Any advice would be great, I know that it is going to have to go in.....BUT, a clue to what to talk to the guys about would be a huge help.
Many thanks, Stephanie

Thanks both of you, I have the phone number of a guy over here to chat too on Monday, I will put both of your ideas to him.
Today the car has just sat there and then this evening the alarm started to go off, after a couple of times, I just switched it off.

Welcome to the site artictruckgirl Thumbs Up

I'm with drdelrrs on this one, quite common Crying or Very sad It is worth just checking to see if any of your intercooler pipes are split first though. If it is the EGR valves, then these can be blanked off as many owners have already done with no ill effects to the engine, most have reported better running. Do a search on the site to get some info. Hope you get it sorted. An independent garage should be able to fix this for you, it doesn't have to be a main dealer. Wink

Thanks Ady
I will have a look later today to see if I can see anything, split pipes etc
LR dealers are expensive in the UK when you need to use them but appear cheap when you live over here, the cost in France is stupid. Last year it was 600€ for the wheel bearing & a new set of front pads!!!!!

Several people over here on anther forum have recommended an English guy, so I will give him a bell in the morning, at least the language barrier wont be there. They don't teach you the names of car parts in your French lessons nor do they call it something simple.

I hope this guy will be able to help either by doing the work on it or giving me directions to fix it.
Thanks again and this is a great site Very Happy

Spain

Sorry to hear about your problems. I have a similar problem were my Sport is, I give some thought to buying one of these

You can clear faults, and with the BT version you can see if your EGR valves are working whilst you drive, or at least the local mechanic can. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Hi

I had the same problem on 2x separate days

Loss of acceleration pulling on to roundabouts etc

Read this thread and although my problem wasn't listed I narrowed it down to the fact that on both occasions it was when returning from site with site boots and noticed that where jeans had bulked over the boot I was slightly catching the brake pedal and enough to create the power loss.

I'll put it down to driver error Whistle

Power loss

Thanks diamond155. I have the same power loss problem. After braking go to accelerate but there is briefly no power, nor any warning lights. Worked out that it never happened when wearing shorts. Will try rolling jeans up and see if it sorts problem.

Sounds the same symptoms I had the other week and it was EGR valves. Blanked off now and all OK

I've just ordered a blanking kit. Little bit sluggish pulling away. Letting my engine breath what it was designed to breath (fresh air) and not the crap it's forced to breath, can only do good. The EGR system is the worst design to come to modern engines EVER.
