Original Daytime Running Lamps

Hi Guys,

I have a 2013 Autobiography which has the daytime running lights / signiture lights.
From the book, it seems to suggest these only come on when the light switch is off?
Does this mean when the switch is in Auto, they wont work?

They work when the "headlamp" is off, so be that off,,or off as part of the auto setting your DRL will / should be on.

There is a bit of a misnomer on these, they are not Daylight Running Lights, never were intended to be DRL's hence the name "signature headlights". LR introduced them a couple of years before DRL's became mandatory to answer the demand for BMW and Audi style angel eye lamp modifications that could be bought through aftermarket suppliers. I had my own 2007 RRS Adaptive headlights modified to have the Audi style "smile" of LED's in the lighting units by Hawke. There was a way to enable them in the vehicle setup if you have the IID tool as they were required for markets like Sweden and Poland long before they were required here and can be enabled through that route. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The ones inside the headlamps.
I wonder if there is a way to have them on while in auto headlamps?

This is what it says in the manual but do not think its for UK cars but could be wrong.

DAYLIGHT RUNNING LAMPS
With the main lighting control in the Off
position (1), low beam headlamps, side lamps,
tail, license plate lamps and, where fitted, side
marker lamps, will switch on automatically
under the following conditions:
• The ignition is on.
• The gear selector is out of park.
• The parking brake is not applied (is
released) - market dependent.
HEADLAMP COURTESY DELAY
This feature operates whenever the lamps
master switch is left in the Auto position, and
the ignition is turned off. The headlamps will
remain illuminated for up to 240 seconds.

If you get it to work let us know, I have not tried it.

It also says.

Unless required or prohibited by
law, daylight running lamps can be
disabled or enabled by your
Dealer/Authorised Repairer. Lot of Landcruisers now sold
Audi TT 240 Sport now sold for.
RRS 2.7 HSE Now sold for.

Thats what I read that seems to suggest they only work with the headlamps turned off and not in auto which is a crapper as I would have to keep switching them on and off which defeats the point of auto lamps lol

As far as I am aware I do not know of any RRS1 that have the headlight DRL's activated - there has been a few of us that have looked at having the function enabled to match - Canadian / Scandinavian markets. I gave up after it seemed the dealership did not have clue what I was on about Rolling with laughter
Is there any forum members with 12/13MY Sports with this activated as standard ? Embarassed 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

You can activate these using a IIDTool if you have one, but I can't remember what it actually turns on I have a feeling it also turns dip beam on as well.

If I get chance tomorrow will activate them and see what does turn on out of curiosity, can always de-activate them again

Cheers
Col

Hi

Have gone into the CCF files and there are three options listed on my car a MY13 A/B 5.0L S/C.

1. DRL Standard
2. Scandinavian
3. Canadian

I activated Standard and all that did was give me two Fault Codes B124A-15 and B124B-15 which are Left and Right Daytime Running Light open Circuit but no working DRL's so it may be when you have either DRL lamp kit VPLSV0064 or 65 fitted you may have to activate this but that is purely a guess. By the way those kit's are over £400.00

De-activated that and then activated Canadian and what that did was nothing with ignition on and Engine Running, however when you engage Drive and let the Park Brake Off it Switched Front and Rear Side Lights and Dipped Headlights On, as soon as you apply P/B and take it out of Drive It switches them Back Off.

Again De-activated that and Activated Scandinavian and what that did was as soon as you Start Engine it Switched on Front and Rear Sidelights and Dipped Headlights. (Muddy was correct there).

There is no facility that I could find to just activate the Front Fairy Lights on there own as DRL's.

I hope that all makes some kind of sense.

Cheers
Col

Hi Peachy

I used the GAP Diagnostics IIDTool BT Version.

As I said you cannot activate the sidelights on there own it is basically Dipped Headlights when you start the Engine.

Cheers
