Turbo Fault - help needed please!

Hi All,

I've had my RRS for exactly 3 weeks and already a fault Sad

It is an intermittent issue where the engine system fault warning comes on, it losses some power and gets noisy! I went to my LR dealer this morning to see what was up and after an hour they informed me that the turbo inlets are sticking and to put it right will cost £7k Shocked

I have called up some local 4x4 garages and they can do the work for about £800 and I think I can buy two reconditioned turbos for about £1200. Does this seem fair?

My question is, if the inlets are only sticking could I not have these repaired rather than replace the complete turbo?

Any advice or comments greatly appreciated!

Not sure what they mean by sticking, but if your turbos are to be replaced its a body off job, if you can find a local reconditioning place then 100% take them there! Let them know your coming so they can get the parts in advance as to reduce the time it takes them as the car will be stuck on somones ramp until you get them back. Always replace the studs and nuts that hold the manifold to the head as these are prone to failure, I did mime with vauxhall vxr ones as they are much better quality.
800 does seem a great price for taking the turbos off and refitting them spiteful Range Rover Sport tdv8

I've had issues in the past with "reconditioned" turbos on TDV8s.

I only fit new OEM units as you can be guaranteed they will be right. Though they are £1000 a piece, plus fitting

When you say turbo's (plural) I assume you have either a TDV8 or a 3 litre Sport.

Why not get one of the mobile tech's on this or the Disco Forum to have a look at it first Thumbs Up

Flack based is Preston based
Wiggs is Manchester based.

Or even get the car to DM north of the boarder In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Iv never had trouble with any turbos iv had reconditioned, if the people doing them know what they are doing then they will be fine there's not much to a turbo and even if its beyond repair putting a new cartridge in your housings will basically be a new turbo anyway and still save you more on not buying new ones spiteful Range Rover Sport tdv8

Thank all, I believe the actuator is sticking shut on one side and getting sticky on the other. I am seeing people talking about lubricating them and a mod that come out that keeps it permanently lubricated? Also, I only get slight loss of power which resets the fault if I turn the engine off so will I damage the engine if I keep driving it?

Thanks again!

It's not the turbo internals that are the problem, it's calibrating the VNT mechanism.

It can only be done properly by one place in the world, and that is at Borg Warners own factory Thumbs Up

If you've only had the car 3 weeks why don't you take it back to the seller, even if bought private you have rights, as it is it's not fit for purpose. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current
