Remapping a TDV8

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and also a new owner of a RRS TDV8. I've found a lot of posts on here about remapping, but none that answer the question I have... The most common remap seems to be one that improves performance and economy, but what if you were to just map the car for performance. Has anyone done it, and what affect does it have on the mpg?

Many thanks Thumbs Up

You can have the map done to tweak for Power. You could also have out and out race remaps, but then you really need to be doing other things to the engine for that to be able to be done reliably.

Almost any remap for thr Tdv6 and tdv8 will provide power, the balance is to get that power delivered reliably and not just by throwing more fuel and boost into the equation. Too much fuel over a long period of time is a sure fire way to trash the engine.

The simple fact is, if you have a power remap, you will have more power available to you. If you choose not to use that power by driving miss daisy, then it will be more economical as the power usually comes in earlier, allowing you to use more torque sooner, so delivering efficiencies in the drive train by keeping in a higher gear.

If you use the power in a lead foot syle, then economy will be affected of course, but most people drive normally most of the time, but theres some times when you really want that extra power to pee off the boy racer and at that point, it really doesnt matter what the economy is Wink

I've remapped TDv8's (i've got another tdv8 next week to do) and theres about 40-45bhp and 90-100Nm toque increase. Believe me, that's a considerable increase that surprises most people.
Let me know if you want that Wink Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks for the follow up guys. I'm 100% getting it done, and hopefully by a reliable company. Alive tuning. I've seen that they've added some comments on other posts.

I was due to have the remap done earlier this week, however the garage (Rover Tune in Reading) discovered the air intake manifold had a hairline fracture. So that is being replaced before the remapping is completed. Prior to the discovery of the manifold issues, the question I was asked regarding the remap was whether I wanted it setup for pure speed and power regardless of ecconomy, or whether I wanted to increase performance and economy. I thought I'd see which way others had gone with this decision, and the affects its had on the car...

Due back in the replacement manifold and remap next week Very Happy

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't decatting an MOT failure?
Would love to understand what can be done without impacting the MOT...?

You gut out the cat and fit a pipe inside it, then weld it back into the system. Looks like the cat is still there (and AFAIK, during the MOT, the technician has too look if the cat is physically fitted, which is what it exactly looks like). Regards etc.,

Pretty difficult to see the cats on a rrs anyway, and other than a visual inspection there is no cat testing done during an MOT, yes it might be against the law but just think of all the horses that are being trapped and killed by that cat every day Sad spiteful Range Rover Sport tdv8

As above, if the missing cat is not noticed, it won't fail... Whistle

You can get dummy ones or chop and weld the existing one instead. They can't remove any panels/shields etc. either. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I've just had the remapping completed and am smiling from ear to ear. However, under hard acceleration when in sport mode it dropped power for a moment and displayed an engine warning before then disappearing and power returned instantly. Thoughts? The road was a little wet and so I wondered if it could be the DSC kicking in? I've no experience of what warning occurrs when DSC kicks in... Appreciate your feedback and thoughts!

I had a customer with something very similar with a TDV8

Plugged it in, and it came back as a brake pedal switch. Just pure coincidence, new switch fitted and it's never come back Thumbs Up
