Petrol in a TDV6

This is a generic question that arose today for me i'm hoping someone can offer constructive advice......

a friend of mine today filled his VW touareg TDi with petrol Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

But..... it systematically shut itself own to prevent damage when it sensed a fueling issue, and thus prevented any major damage.
Obviously he's had a large bill to extract the wrong fuel, filters, bleeding, priming etc etc.
but!!!! he has been saved. Bow down Bow down

my question is!

If such an unfortunate event happen to my Range Rover sport would it also systematically shut down???????????????

(my wife is the main driver and this is a possibility Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry )

Nope. TDV6 will just keep driving until it stops

The strength of petrol, and length of time its been run will determine the damage caused.

Once had a customer who refuelled with a range of 12 miles. Brimmed it with petrol. Drove it home 5 miles, and wouldnt restart in the morning...

Once drained, flushed and filled with diesel, it was fine, and has been ever since.

On the other hand, another filled up with petrol with quarter of a tank remaining. Still ran for 300 miles, until it would no longer start, but this one had worn away the HPFP, and filled the injectors and fuel tank full of metal filings...

What year is your car? The facelifted car (end of 2009 onwards) has a misfuel device. I once put the petrol nozzle in mine and it shut a flap in the filler after I had put about 50 pence in it. There is a tool in the boot to reset it, I then brimmed it with diesel and all was fine!

Mines an 07 model.

Is the misfuel device something that can be retrofitted?

A friend has an 07 D3 and filled with petrol - the car drove off and shortly after the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and very very shortly after the engine shut down.

It would seem sensors will detect issues and shut down.

He had the system drained and flushed at considerable expense and all was OK after.

Yes I did the same on my 13 plate RRS and as soon as it had started it stopped very soon and it was then that I realised that it was petrol that I was putting in.I then changed to diesel and filled the tank as it was nearly empty annd found out that I had put in about 50p worth and did not worry as it was drowned by the diesel. At no time did I have to use the yellow misfuel key.
