2 Months of Ownership

Have to say first I love the car but as loads of people here I am now having issues. First month was fine. Then the car started to turn off itself. Turned out it was a crankshaft sensor. Car has been with dealer last 2 weeks and then they had the nerve to call me to say the front brake pad were worn and did I want to change them. I told them that I would expect a car that I bought less than 2 months ago to have brake pads checked before it was sold. I'll sort that out was the reply. Now they tell me that while testing the car that it went into limp mode and that an exhaust sensor has gone and needs replacing. I am not the type to explode easily. But it's getting close...

In the UK that would be not your problem but the dealer that sold you the car's problem - as under UK law faults arising within three months of purchase are the dealer's responsibility to fix.
You should check what the law in Ireland says. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi I am not sure on the law here but I do think it is very similar. They usually copy our laws from yours lol. The dealer is fixing it no problem. But letting a car off your forecourt that clearly need a new set of brake pads in my book is unacceptable.

Well - I didn't like to say that about your law of course Whistle

All that guff about a gazillion point check before they sell any car is all just BS. Give it a wash, get Chips Away to fix any little dents and grazes then shove it on the forecourt.

Sounds to me the dealer was trying the old 'milking the customer' trick - tell him the brakes are nearly worn out and naturally the reaction will be 'oh gosh my wife and family will be at risk so I'd better get that done'. Kerching! ...easy money it's a simple quick job for which the dealer can overcharge on time and parts. Naturally they'll change all four discs without even bothering to check if they are worn below minimum thickness.

Funny how there seems to be two standards of brake wear - one for when they are selling a car and another for when they are being paid to service it. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

True just throw it on the forecourt. At least they are fixining it no problem. They also sold me an extended warranty with breakdown assist that I can't get a number for out of them.I forgot to mention the brakes worn light had come on before I sent it back in and I had said it to them also. I should have kept my evoque lol

The relevant consumer law is EU wide so the dealers on the hook!
