Newbie With Battery Issue? 2005 TDV6

Good morning all,

I believe im starting to get a couple of electrical issues which i would guess is related to the battery.

Once ive left the car for a couple of days upon first start up im getting a warning saying HDC fault system not available. I've researched this on here and its related to battery, does anyone have any recomendations on what battery to go for? I remember seeing a few options available but cant for the life of me remember where i saw this.

Secondly this started happening yesterday, once driving the car for a while and i go to lock it, nothing happens, i open and close all the doors but tried again and still nothing. So i put the key into the ignition turned it on and off again then the doors locked first time. This has happened to me twice now, could it be down to a key battery on its way out or related to the main vehicle battery dying?

Thank you in advance.

Use discout code "D2BOYS" to get a few extra pounds off. Wink

Not sure about the key, but I would think there's a strong possibility it's related. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Do check the battery, and, even more so, the alternator before putting a new battery in though. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks for your help, I've only owned the car a few weeks now but im pretty sure the alternator has been recently replaced but ill double check. They may have replaced the alternator but left the old battery on to save some £'s

That could well be the case. Do you know if the alternator is genuine/OE (Denso) or not? If not an issue now, it's worth knowing, as aftermarket alternators often cause issues (sometimes when new). Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I'm not 100% sure i will have to have a look through the records with the car. I'd imagine its a aftermarket rather than oem spec.

Just done a battery test now and checked the alternator, battery results came up with good - recharge, but it's lost 200 amps, alternator is charging perfectly, that was at 14.5 volts while the engine was running, no real loss in charge with all lights and heated screens on etc.

The key fault hasn't happened since yesterday so im wondering if it was possibly a signal issue or something rain related now. Happened in 2 different places so we will see. Only other thing I'm still thinking is the key battery is on its way out now as it is 10 years old. Anybody got any ideas what main dealers charge for a new key coded? The spare is flat as a pancake too Sad

A new key is approx £140, which then needs to be paired with a diagnostic tool (doesn't have to be a dealer - a site sponsor may be able to help). Thumbs Up

Some have also cut the key open and transferred the electronics, soldering on a new battery, to a new case. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
