i have a 55 plate 2.7 Sport that had a gearbox judder when changing from 3rd to 4 th gear.. I have reset the gearbox adaptions but the gearbox changes are very juddery & the gearbox goes into limp mode every couple of miles showing F in the display. This is reset when the ignition is re cycled. Can you tell me if the gearbox ECU requires re flashing or will the gearbox changes improve with use?

The gearbox adaptions allow the gearbox to accommodate its own internal wear as well as the driver's style. Clearing the adaptions will set it back to the settings it had as a wear free unit. This is presumably why yours is now throwing errors because it think things are out of tolerance. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Present is 1 transmission fault
P0783-64 ( ED) 3-4shift. Algorithm based failure- Signal plausibility failure.
My son in law had the car previous &I do not remember him having any flushes/oil changes to the gearbox oil.
The car has had an occasional confused gear changes previous to adaption reset, this has resulted in the limp home in 3rd gear.
The fault code was " Incorrect gear ratio" This fault was reset by recycling ignition.

Adaptions should only be reset, if you know EXACTLY what you are doing, and why you are doing it...

No idea, sadly. It might be worth speaking to someone like Bristol Transmissions who have a good reputation with this gearbox.

If I was putting a pound on it, I'd go with a strip/refurb of the 'box being required. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Car has done 123 k miles. I wish I had left the adaption reset alone, too late now

Can you tell me if Bristol Transmissions are the best or is there somebody as good that is closer to Kent?
I realise that I have to spend out to have the gearbox fixed , I don't want to waste money on a sub standard fix.

You need to reset the adaptions once more, then drive the car very gently for the next 2-300 miles.

There may be an underlying issue with the gearbox, and the above may not help, but it will give the gearbox a fighting chance

If it doesn't help, then it's likely the clutch plates have become damaged , and a box refurb is needed

Adaptions reset again as suggested.Able to drive the car in command shift. Have to back off the throttle when shifting into 4th gear (original fault). Have provisionally booked car into Bristol Transmissions & will travel down overnight when less traffic is about. Does anybody know if once 6th gear is selected will it stay there for the duration of the journey if the road speed is high enough.

If you can keep it at a reasonable speed then it should stay in 6th. It'll change down even in Command Shift but not until about 50mph (a guesstimate from hazy memory). On a fast A-road or m-way it should be stay in 6th. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
