Budget shake up of Vehicle Excise Duty

So after banging on about pollution - people are now buying new cleaner vehicles with free VED but the Gov't have lost revenue and decided it is unfair Shocked

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33438840

What a joke. Just like getting everyone to buy diesels then making it dearer than petrol to recoup loss of revenue Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Just had my VED renewal through. 505 for the year. If I pay monthly they will very generously charge me an extra 25.25!

And they wonder why people try to reduce their tax bills elsewhere... Censored 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Muddy, it was always going to happen that they would have to charge low/zero emission vehicles at some point. As you say, the loss of revenue from 25 million zero-VED vehicles would otherwise be detrimental to the Govt's funding. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

RRSTDV8 - yes as usual they say buy x and dress it up as eco then move the goalposts when they see a loss of revenue

So where's the incentive now for the companies that pumped billions into green technology and creating jobs if 95% of vehicles will be in std band Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I renewed mine in March, and it was 475. Has it gone up again since then? I said to Mrs Ady in March, if it goes up to 500+ then the sport is going. Whistle I only do approx 8000 miles a year.

Mine is doing 2500+ miles / month at the moment so the price per mile of the VED is nothing compared to the fuel bill... Whistle

Looking forward to a glut of cheap RRS on the market soon then... Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The thing that grinds my gears is the "jealously tax" bit where cars over 40k list price pay an extra 310pa for five years. So you buy your nice car, get hit for a first year VED hike because "it's a bit polluting" and then get hit again because it's a bit pricey.

I expect to see the manufacturers making 39,995 tax avoiding models. Of course it'll hit JLR because most of their output is more than 40k list. Nice one George. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
