car shakes at 70mph- help

Hi guys,
Need some help, recently purchased a RRS 2.7TDV6 and now and then the car begins to shake and rattle at 70mph (2000 rpm) which goes through the whole vehicle. It goes after I drop the revs and re apply. I never experience this around town and its only intermittent on the motorway. Im taking it to the local garage to check but no faults come up on the dash. It has happened twice this week. Any ideas??

Thanks. Will the parking brake do this? Other times I drive at 75 /80 mph, no issue. Its only a few times at 70 mph it has ocurred. Parking brake operates fine with no issues though?

it goes after you drop the rev's....? probably not the brakes then, could be EGR valve fluttering, or possibly cross over pipe leaking causing some spurious issue? Bodsys Brake Bible

Check the center prop mount, it might have perished, or the bearing gone...

I had something similar lately on my 58 rrs tdv8 hst .About 10 miles after leaving a hand car wash place the whole vehicle was vibrating at about 60 ! Pulled over and had a quick look incase of loose wheels , but nothing, so carried on home and nothing since ! Don't know whether water from jetwash they used got into something under arches ? oOk now , fingers crossed !

You might want to check the harmonic dampers (two weights, either side behind the rear wheels) swing freely and aren't contacting the bodywork.

Well took it to the garage, found an EGR fault which he is blanking out. He states its a gearbox issue and possible need a gearbox change. Don't know if I believe him as it drives perfect round town and on country roads at 50 / 60 mph but will try a gearbox flush and see what happens. Hopefully the EGR blanking may help also. It's a waiting game.

Hope you got it fixed. I had exactly the same issue, and mine was water in the tyres.

Well,

Had the EGR valves blanked about 3 to 4 months ago and no more shaking at that speed. Gearbox is ok and drives fine. Will need to do some wheel balancing and tracking as I've just downsized from 22s to standard 20s.
