Sorry Dr Rob but that is one of those myths that somehow has been often quoted as fact on the forum..

Just a thought, won't constantly using access mode every time you stop increase wear in the sus bushes ? 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

@camelrock - probably no more than the suspension moving up and down thousands of times every time you drive the car!!!!!! |

I would be more worried about unnecessary wear in the air compressor. 07MY RRS TDV6

I don't see that either. My compressor switches on at start up whether I have lowered to access height or remained at normal.

Yes but on start and when the car is running the air compressor is just topping the tank up - when you lower the vehicle each time you get out, you are wasting air that has to be pumped back in on next start - much more effort than just topping up. Lowering every time you stop the car or let someone in or out substantially increases wear on the compressor - well not so much wear on the compressor directly, but increased clogging of the desiccant which in turn causes heat in the compressor and wear.

I don't think anyone is right or wrong here, but I would personally rather use all the functionality of my car than not and worry about a compressor replacement as or if required.

For sure if you need it, use it. Dr Rob - surely you have your climate control switched on all year around and let it do its own thing - summer or winter so the A.c will be used all the time - in cold weather the air compressor is still being used to rehumidify the air in the vehicle. Put it on and let it do what needs to be done. It is forecast to get down to -6c here tonight and I still have my system set to 19 and the car never fogs up. 07MY RRS TDV6 Arctic Frost Aspen Interior |

Auto access height is standard on the rrs's that are being built now I believe. The paper I saw says it engages when the car is stopped and a door is opened. I don't see that's a lot more convenient than just pushing a button really. |

In the RRS you can use the ECON mode to do that if you don't want full air conditioning. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |
