Land Rover Insurance/Autoglass

Last week I contacted LR insurance to sort a couple of chips to my windscreen before buyer collects. I was told mobile fitter would come that day Cool

Waited 4 hours for a no show - rang and told would check where he was. Rang them again 1.5hours later to be told job was cancelled but no idea why. They would check and ring me next morning Evil or Very Mad

Lunchtime next day I rang again to find out why nobody had contacted me and reason. They advised no idea but booked appointment for today (which is day before buyer collects). I told them it must be done then at latest and asked what if it can't be repaired? They asked me the same questions as first call but this time said replacement not repair. I asked if windscreen will be on van and they said NO Shocked

So few more calls and finally Saturday they agreed to send windscreen in case it can't be repaired. This morning they ring to confirm appointment and I asked for confirmation windscreen will be with fitter but told NO! You can imagine my reaction Evil or Very Mad

Fitter just been and can't repair it so wants to order a screen but despite LR Insurance claiming on website -

Quote:
Only authorise the fitting of Land Rover genuine parts and panels

They are on about fitting a Pilkington or similar which will not be badged LR Banging Head

So no idea when it will be done or how this is going to affect my sale Thud

Christ !!!! What a shower of Censored they seem to be. The factory glass is Pilkington anyway. It is stamped with Pilkington and Land Rover on each piece of glass.
I had a similar experience, I had a car which required a new screen. When I rang Auto Glass they gave me the option to either have factory stamped glass ( this may have to be ordered ) or there own brand same glass without the factory stamp. I also asked for factory glass and had to wait next day.

Pilkington Optikool is the correct glass. I didn't realise you could get it with the LR badge on it except when first off the line.

My replacement screen is Pilkington Optikool with all the correct numbers etc. but doesn't have LR badge on it. I doubt anyone will notice such a detail Muddy...and if they did, I'd just say "hey I went to a lot of trouble to get the correct glass fitted for you to drive away behind a perfect screen" and let them eat crow! Rolling with laughter

As for Autoglass, I'm not surprised having read some of the things on Disco3. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Atacama Sand

Since the turn of the year Autoglass have become a complete shower of the smelly stuff.

They have changed to a mobile only organisation and made many of their experienced fitters redundant. Morale amongst those who are left is dreadful.

Shame really because I had nothing but good experiences with my local Autoglass branch last year on both cars. They ordered me a LR stamped screen, explained why the markings were different (which I didn't believe at first but subsequently had to eat humble pie) and completed a very specialised screen replacement in my VX220 to a very high standard.

I am aware that other people have had big problems with them lately so, at the moment, I would refuse to deal with them should I be unfortunate enough to need to services of a windscreen company.

At least you're not getting trouble getting a Pilkington; many have struggled to be provided with that and your experience is sounding very familiar Wink

Edit: When I say, "you're not getting trouble getting a Pilkington", obviously you are, but they've agreed to provide one (though be sure to check when they come). Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Why did you go to LR insurance in the first place? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Definately write a letter of complaint to your insurer highlighting the issue....there is a very long weary tale about my incredibly recent issues trying to get a screen for my D3 G4 on the Disco 3 forum which I won't bore you with but it involved Autoglass and their total lack of customer service....I've been waiting over a month now and a couple of failed appointments whereby AG turn up and try and fit cheap Censored despite having authority from my insurer to fit OEM glass.

Hence letter to insurer threatening to cancel my policies with them due to the debacle.....next day had AG ordering a Land Rover glass from the dealer network.......still waiting but now been promised genuine screen!

I've contacted LRCS, LR Insurance CS and Autoglass CS but not holding out much hope of them being interested. All I ever seem to get now is a standard reply "sorry for the inconvenience" and similar problems next time Rolling Eyes

Strange thing is before all the consumer protection laws, etc people actually seemed to do a better job Banging Head Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Couple of issues with customer service these days:
1. It's often dealt with by people who have no authority and little incentive to sort issues.
2. With the rise of consumer laws, people are often aggressive and demanding at the first call; "I know my rights!". If you deal with this often enough you end up not caring. This is compounded with 1. above.

The result is all-to-commonly experienced... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
