Mine gave absolutely no indication they were about to fail. It was a few weeks after a service, though, so I have suspicions that someone messed up. But up until that point they were fine and then suddenly they weren't. As for the rest, if it's been looked after properly with all services on time and to spec, then it's as good a bet as any other. A gearbox flush is probably a good idea. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Objectively speaking, it is a bl@@dy silly idea! There are more reliable, more economical choices out there. |

Very silly idea, unless you like drama and hassle. But, my TDV8 is without doubt the best car I have every owned and I never tire of driving it. You just need a good warranty and a bit of luck and it's a fantastic experience. |

That is exactly what I've done with the AA. I also self-insure and have a backup credit card if something catastrophic happens. |

Welcome Chrisbin! I bought my 07 TDV8 at 55k miles & now at 118k miles. No probs (tempting fate) apart from a battery, alternator & a couple of bearings. I've used Warranty Direct Secure Care at £850 p.a. which has covered all but battery. Yesterday I took out a new Warrenty Direct Secure Care policy for £900 p.a. which expires at 135k miles, when I will change the car. Betterment is excluded so I don't have to pay of a proportion of the parts & all but suspension & air con is covered. At present mileage the car stills looks & feels like a 50k mile car or less, but apart from muddy tracks/farm work now & then I look after it & it gets LR main agent servicing. The main reason I have a warranty is for the very reason that you never know when turbos may be an issue.... |

Keep the Elise and buy something else. Sounds like the best of both worlds - more toys in the cupboard! |
