Gearbox flush in south wales. has anyone done it!

Hi Guys just wondering if any of the RRS Forum members in South Wales have had a Gearbox Mega flush carried out, if so where and when and would you recommend having it done. Having some gear change issues and occasional Fault " limited gears available " has happened on one occasion.

Cheers
Mike

If you have a genuine, mechanical gearbox fault, a flush is likely to finish off the gearbox...

Your best bet would be to have it plugged into a diagnostic machine, and see what fault codes are stored.

A blocked fuel filter, failing fuel pump, sticky brake switch or dodgy brake light bulb can all cause the same issues though, so we'll worth investigating Thumbs Up

As DM says Thumbs Up get it checked out first

but

can say a gearbox flush is a worthwhile maintenance item, just had ours done and thought it was smooth before hand, now even better, can tell on the down change when going up a hill how smooth it is.

Should be good for another 100k now. Shocked

Thumbs Up

Hi Guys thanks for your replies, just had timing belts and engine oil change done ( picked her up at 5pm tonight) and on test drive they noticed she was not changing gear as she should be. They checked for fault codes but nothing showing up. This was at a local independant land rover specialist.

Cheers
Mike

Brake bulbs and brake pedal switch would be first port of call Thumbs Up

Cheap enough to be replaced as a service item Thumbs Up

Low fluid level also has a similar effect. Thumbs Up

Bristol transmissions is probably closest for gearbox problems if it is anything more serious. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

RRS booked in for mega flush next week, checked the oil and it is almost black. Will have a look at the brake light switch as well. Both Brake light bulbs replaced recently.
Will report back next week. Bow down

Hi Hamner the Mega flush/ gearbox service that i had done did make a difference to the gear change, but i have had the Fault 'limited gears available' since the oil change. The Gearbox service was more than just a flush as they also changed the Oil pan and filter and was not cheap at £450. If you just want a flush and you are not getting the Gearbox fault as i have been having, then yes i would go for the Mega flush. The gear change improvement was noticeable from pulling away from the Garage.
I had my gearbox service carried out at DATSC in Barry who are ZF transmission specialists.

Hope this of use to you Danny.

Cheers
Mike

Hi Danny here is their number 01446 327007 and 08000337092.
Be specific as to what work you want them to do. Thumbs Up

Be prepared for a wait as it took at least 4.5 hours to do the gearbox service. I had too wait for the work to be done so went for a walk over to Barry island etc. But if someone can pick u up you can always go into Cardiff for a few hours. Not much in Barry to do.

All the best
Mike

Hi Danny I have now fitted a new brake light switch to try and sort out my gearbox fault, need to get fault codes checked and erased and maybe re
Flash the gearbox ecu. Have not had time to take the rrs on a decent run out since brake switch was changed. I work shifts and had the weekend off but went out on the pop instead. Very Happy Last weekend of local rugby and then 3 games to watch on Sunday afternoon.

Like I said be specific in what work you ask them to do for you. Gearbox service was £450 worth of work, the oil sump/filter was about a hundred pounds plus the oil which adds up to the cost as above.

Cheers
Mike

Before you spend any money on a "gear box fault", have a read of this sticky -->
http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic35871.html

Basically, if you some times notice the box won't up-shift, try it in sport mode (command shift), and check that it will manually up-shift, if that works, check that you have the same make of tyre across each axle, as the difference in rolling radius of different tyres makes the gearbox think it's turning, so it won't automatically up-shift.
