Detachable tow bar

Can anyone let me know
Do you get a small amount of side to side movement from detachable when inserted
When I remove I have to kick it to release while turning knob
There seems to be no movement forward or back
When I installed the electrics to genuine wiring the blanking plugs where in place and the screw holes for sockets where rusted which leads me to think it's never had a tow bar so don't think there would be wear in receiver socket for detachable
When looking into the receiver socket there is a hole at the top but can't see anything the small pin at top of the detachable would locate in
The movement sideways is only when I kick it
But with the movement of my caravan would do the same as as me kicking it
Thanks
Cosmo

I spoke to my local dealer today was told Land Rover have cancelled free check
I have ordered a new cross member that detachable connects to
I also spoke to a local towbar installer they said shouldn't have much movement

After finding out what's involved in changing rear cross member I have placed a board by the side of detachable to measure the movement
It moves approx 1/4 inch at the bottom of the swan neck
The movement is suddenly to side but nothing front to back
The fitting it so tight in receiver I have to kick it to release
Does anyone else have same problem

Mine also moves slightly, like yours only side to side. I have towed a small rib with no problems, but it is disconcerting.

It locks in correctly, is a tight fit and takes a good smack/kick to get it out.

Let me know how you get on.

The Detachable Towbar on our RRS won't Detach, Big Cry it's as if it's welded on. I've managed to free the lock / key so it now turns and the plastic part slides out but won't twist downwards. I think it's needs the big hammer treatment.

Is it best to hammer the towball?
