Picked up the new HSE Range Rover Sport two weeks ago after three and a half years in the Evoque.When you selected park on the gearbox it put the handbrake automatically on for you,but this new car you have to put it on manually when you select park.
Does everybody else have the same on their vehicle? 2007 HSE in black with 22 inch id ones with privacy glass.

Yes I too have come from an Evvoque in the last 3 weeks and find the same annoying "feature" on the RRS2, my previous RRS's both applied the EPB automatically too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I never use it either. 

We park on an incline on the drive so it gives you a bit of a shock when it suddenly lurches forward and you find yourself suddenly jamming the foot brake on in a panic.
I dont every remember a car which rolls like this before locking itself in park. 2007 HSE in black with 22 inch id ones with privacy glass.

Putting the SVR in park is one thing I haven't got used to yet. I'm used to the usual PRND selector. None of this pressing buttons 'n' stuff. 

Yes takes some getting used to pressing the button for park pushed the stick forward to get park first night got reverse instead.

Yes, it's slightly counter-intuitive to push the lever forwards to go back and pull it back to go forwards....

I do use the handbrake when parking on a slope. Otherwise, the drivetrain is stressed and the weight of the car carried on the automatic parking mechanism. I had it fail in a Mercedes SL600 once...

Incidentally, have you noticed if you push the lever across to the left to put it in sport mode and then switch off the engine without engaging park, that the lever pops across to the right by itself while also selecting park. Mark

Two other things I have found with the gearbox/ shift:
a) If I stop and switch off without pressing the P button the engine will not stop and I get a warning on the info screen to the effect that I should engage P

b) As somebody who gets steam up when stopped behind a car where the driver is stopped and standing on the footbrake (ie legally not "stopped" as the parking brake isn't on) illuminating the high level brake light right in my face I found with my 9 speed Evoque, when using the Eco Stop/Start, once the engine has stopped automatically if you move the selector to Neutral and apply the parking brake, remove foot from the footbrake (normally this would rerstart the engine) and the engine will remain stopped, high level brake lights go out too, saves some wear on the brake pads too. I have found this also works in my new RRS. When I first expeirenced the Eco Stop/Start I didn't think I could live with it and would switch it off, but now I am used to it I never switch it off as it works so well. The only issue with using the above in the RRS is that sometimes I don't press the detent switch at the back of the gear stick hard enough and the gearbox then won't shift to Drive ready to restart the engine................ Even in the "parked on EPB" mode, if the BMS senses that battery charge is dropping or load is too high, the engine will restart automatically to reduce the electrical load. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
