It was the weight of the Jimmy that made it so capable I think, at one of the pay and play sites I followed a a winch challenge defender round all day it had fiddle brakes and lockers and the tyres were probably worth more than the Jimmy, except he didn't make 2 of the steep rocky hills that my Jimmy made it up 2 discos tried after me and 1 broke its half shaft and rolled back down in to a tree and made the rear in to a V ooops anyway I have been looking in to the mudtech 4x4 kit to install in my RRS as I believe it gives an extra 100mm travel on the factory suspension, my old man had a TDV8 RRS he had to buy some 19" wheels to be able to fit some mud tyres which I think he may still have as the originals were put on to sell so I may have to try them out, how hard are the side steps to remove? I like them been on but of was easy enough I would just remove them when I want to go and play.

Si, your RRS S/C should have the Dynamic Handling pack which the TDv8 also had and was optional on the 2.7HSE. The DP system will allow the rear ARB's to dislocate electro-hydraulically and permit additional wheel extension over standard anyway! Your father was right, and your S/C will be the same as you have the Brembo larger brakes and the smallest OEM wheels that would fit over the calipers would be one of 2 designs - there is another thread where I posted a photo of the Goodyear MTR's mounted on one of the designs and another member also posted a picture of the other design that he has on his TDv8. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Removing the steps is fairly simple - about an hour if you're handy. Whether it would be worth taking them off and replacing them each time is moot.

I've seen the Mudtech suspension system. Looks interesting and is on my "nice to have" list. Thumbs Up You would have to be careful using it in full extension mode - it's possible to drop a front half shaft at full extension, full lock and a bit of throttle I believe.

Goodyear did the MT/R but that hasn't been available new for some time now. The Duratrac is its replacement but it's more an extreme AT than a full MT, if that makes sense. It's pretty good from what I've read on disco3. Atturo make their M/T in a suitable size (http://www.atturo.com/moto/trail_blade_mt) but how easily available it is I don't know. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for all the input I'm constantly learning from this forum Thumbs Up Tim I think it does have the DHP which is great but I'm after a bit more height as those side steps make it so much lower but I would rather damage them than the sills or the doors, not too sure what make the tyres are on his 19" wheels but if he still has them I think I will be trying them out for a while if not now deffo in the winter. RRSTDV8 that's interesting about the mudtech kit and the half shaft issue :/ still that extra 100mm would be nice ey Wink haha the 20" wheels I have on are on road tyres and still performed well round the green lanes but I'm sure would struggle when it got heavy maybe at a pay & play, looking at my wheels today they took a bit of a battering too the other day so will be coming off and touching up as they are black will be easy to do, I will do it myself until they are bad enough to need a proper refurb.

In fairness, I think the half shaft issue occurs naturally because the inner end isn't actually fixed in to the diff - it's not a problem only with the Mudtech system.

I managed to bend my steps when off road. They can take quite a hammering when one considers that they're relatively lightly built. The problem with them is caused by the design of the RRS. The RRS's doors come all the way down to the bottom of the body so the steps hang below the body (approx. level with the bottom of the chassis rails). On the D3 the bottom of the steps is level with the bottom of the body. This also means that stand off bars can be higher up too and thus maximise ground clearance - about 50mm, which can make a difference. Coupled with the naturally slightly higher ground clearance of the Disco, the RRS suffers in comparison. Such is the price we pay for "style" over function... Big Cry

You can get Grabber AT for 20 inch rims. I currently use the 19 inch version and it's coped pretty well. There are lots of little cuts and nicks on them now so I might have been lucky so far. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's interesting about the Grabbers I could be tempted for a set of those especially when the shooting season starts (winter) I know the 19" will be better due to bigger tyre wall but I like the 20" wheels lol agreed with the steps I noticed they took a bit of stick when I had the RRS bellied with the wheels spinning lol managed to drag myself over the hump on the steps almost 3 tonne on top of some light ally steps is t too bad but yes they do hang too low compared to the discos Sad cheers
