Low level of motor oil after couple thousands of kilometers

Hi Folks,

My 2.7 TDV6 has around 190K kilometers and recently seems to have started to 'eat up' the motor oil. Since the latest service (oil change in every 12K kilometers) I ran approx. 6K kilometers and the oil level went down to close to minimum. I had white smoke on cold starts in couple of mornings (2-4 times) so I went to my LR specialist to check. The indi found nothing irregular, except the low oil level so topped it up, but after 2K kilometers it went down again to the level of 1/4 Big Cry . I never had to top up oil before, and always kept the service intervals rigorously, even earlier sometimes. I guess it can be a turbo issue, but before I put it into the indi's hand, I wanted to ask whether anyone has any idea, experience? Thanks in advance. Cheers,

That is a fair bit of oil use. My first guess (assuming it's not leaving big puddles in your driveway or on your garage floor) is the turbo seals - they're pretty common points of oil egress on higher mileage vehicles - which yours is tbh.

The other place to look is in the intake piping - if it's a piston-ring issue you might find your intake pipes all oily.

Do you know someone who can do a compression test (or pref. a leak-down test) ? Every home should have one!
