Hi,

I can't seem to find a lot of info about the Supercharger's intercooler, other than I believe it's the thin "radiator" down under the main engine coolant radiator? Does this share fluid with the main cooling system? Assuming, that is, that the IC is water-to-air....

I ask as the Mrs noticed a small pool of red "oil" under where the RRS is parked in the garage and on investigation it appears to be oily water, rather than oil - so I assume it is engine coolant. I note there is a small amount on the front of the underside of the car in the middle - so under these radiators.

This appeared the other night and the car has been driven and parked several times since then with no further "leaks" - so I'm wondering if it's a) main coolant or IC coolant and b) if it was a one-off overflow situation or I have an actual leak - i.e. where does the radiator overflow pipe exit the vehicle?

I also have RRS S/C across the ditch. I will await your reply before going any further.

As far as I know the intercooler is air cooled, not water. I haven't ever known an inter cooler to be cooled by water - water will be around 98-100 degrees, the whole idea is getting cold air across it to drop the internal temperature.

Sounds like a coolant leant somewhere, when I changed the condenser on mine i did notice a build up of dirt / leaves on the radiator which could have corroded it over time. Time for a strip down im afraid, happy to help if your near Nottingham?

The Supercharged engine uses a pair of air-to-liquid intercoolers sat on top of the engine, either side of the supercharger. The coolant is cooled by a radiator in front of the main engine coolant radiator. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks RRSTDV8 - I suspected that the RRS used a air-water IC.

Turns out this appears to be a engine coolant overflow - as a few days later I got the "low coolant" chime. Topped it off with 100ml of water and was fine.

There has been no evidence of any further overflow/leaks so I'll assume (for now!) it was a one off....

So, another 2 (small) puddles of orange coolant on the garage floor and a "low coolant" warning on the dash.... Hmmm.

I see from looking around here that the reservoir float can go porous, but does anyone know if the tanks themselves crack and leak?

Oddly it's been weeks since it last did it, I've not been on any trips or run it hard so it seems to be random...

Thoughts anyone? Every home should have one!

I haven't had a chance to do a pressure test yet - busy trying to work and make a dollar sadly - I will get around to it at some stage soon. I still suspect my overflow bottle, as I've seen threads where they can leak.

If mine was a diesel I'd also be looking at the EGRs - they apparently can leak into the exhaust without evidence showing Every home should have one!

If its the second i cannot see any leaks on it, if its the first i assume the leak is internal

Yes it was the aux radiator. It had a small leak at the bottom of the core. Easy to replace just hard to get to. '12 RRS SC
