Rough MPG 4.2 s/c - 2005

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a 2005 4.2 supercharged. I only do 100miles per week and none of that is more than a 20min journey. (Work from home)

How much a week in petrol do you think I'll spend?

Cheers

A full tank of petrol gives me 230-250miles, however my journeys are always below 20mins (I guess running a cold engine so...)

...on a near on 600 mile round trip A34/M40/M42/M6 - Bolton / returning via M1/M25/M3 kept it around the 70mph mark and averaged 19.7mpg overall.

...I find a week of around town driving gives about 14mpg. I also do about 8000 miles annually.

Thumbs Up Carl

I have always been told, If you need to ask that question. You cant afford it. Fuel is not the only factor with a 4.2 supercharged Big Cry itisme

i got the supercharged regardless of fuel cost as it wasn't getting used much and was just a weekend car. i didnt want the problems that come with short journey diesels as this would out way the fuel cost. i average about the 12 mpg mark.
i got mine as i wanted one for years but i will probably end up getting rid next year. i had it 5 months now and only done 400 miles. I think that millage would destroy a diesel.

I get 13mpg tops around town but I've got a heavy right foot. I was advised when I bought the car that you should always use premium unleaded too which adds a little extra to the cost.

The crappy mpg is totally worth it for the smile it'll put on your face though Wink

I think these two pictures sum up the extremes of S/C fuel consumption pretty well. Both photos were taken at the end of a journey that started with a fill up and trip computer reset.

First was a taken after a 190 mile trip on mostly motorways... (and is the best mpg I've ever recorded so far) the second was after a short trip to the shops Laughing Laughing

Adam - did you end up buying your RRS in the end?

Australia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey

Hi, I have a 2006 4.2s/c
Just did a big trip from Melbourne to Bathurst and back at the weekend (about 1600klms). Mainly highway driving with some country roads.
Got 7.2klms per ltr (which is 20.34mpg in UK terms).which is pretty good.
It was helped by the STD 2015 20"wheels and 255/55/20 tyres that I have just fitted as they have a bigger rolling diameter.
Agree that the RRS fuel consumption is much better out of town. But as ours is a second SUV we can pick and choose when we want to use it. Nothing like a bit of luxury and performance .
