tailgate struts

when I open my tailgate hatch it unlocks but lifting is such an effort, should the tailgate lift on its own with a little lifting effort closing it is the same I have to pull down and hold to lower to soft close action, should I be looking to change the gas struts, anyone know the part number of the strut and can you upgrade to stronger struts,

Got the exact same problem - mine just don't seem to have enough oomph to lift the tailgate up so if I don't remember to raise the tailgate to it's full extent manually I keep Banging Head my head on it. As it's my first RRS I'm not sure how strong they should be either...

Replaced both of mine last year, got them from http://www.sgs-engineering.com

I can not remember the price I paid but they do the job, easy to fit yourself. 2006 RRS SC Bonatti Grey (the 55th car/van I have owned)

That's interesting Simon, so even with new struts the tailgate won't open fully under its own stream then?

I have sent SGS-Engineering an email asking for their recommendation on a uprated strut, I will update the thread as soon as I receive a response.

No it needs a hand, not a lot but on its own it would probably lift about 2 foot

Thanks, sounds like my struts are working absolutely perfectly in that case! Rolling Eyes

The sub woofer mounted in the RH side adds considerably to the weight I expect. Genuine LR struts are different part numbers for each side, probably to allow for the unbalanced weight side to side. I doubt that aftermarket suppliers will allow for this and will supply the same rating for both sides. I find that the struts give less help in cold conditions.

You will only hear it with a decent sound input which includes the required low frequency input.
Poor input lousy output!

The strut part numbers are different one is BHE790054 and the other is BHE790044, Not sure why unless its to do with the weight of the speaker in rear hatch, But would like to know how much difference

SGS are very helpful, if you give them the original part numbers I'm sure they will supply an 'odd' pair of uprated ones:thumbsup: Thumbs Up Over for a visit from disco3.co.uk
