United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

If you're going to work your RRS hard then you probably want to go for a basic spec one. An early 2.7 SE perhaps. Be able to fit smaller wheels to it which will help off-road tyre choice. It'll be without the active anti-roll bars too.

To be honest, the reason that RRS seem to be unreliable is because the typical owner is not a DIY mechanic. That puts them in the hands of garages and often in to the hands of LR garages. They add unreliability every time they touch the vehicle it seems.

If you want a comfortable 4x4 that you can work hard then go for a D3. There's plenty of hands-on technical support on Disco3.co.uk and the aftermarket also supports it in a way that RRS isn't supported. That means more bits can be bought cheaply.

For off-roading I'd love a G-wagon but have you seen the price of them?! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Cheers for the advice.
Must admit to not being overly keen on disco's hence why I've avoided them. Always loved the shape of the sport aswell and think of them as a lot nicer especially inside.

G's seem to get big money but a secondhand one can be on par to the new shape sport, thought the op might be looking at new replacements.

Im not afraid to get my hands dirty and stuck in but Reckon even a bass spec sport might be a bit much for me.

I appreciate the thoughts on the Disco's looks but they really do grow on you. Look at the amount of owners on the D3/D4 site that have owned one or sequential ones for 10 years+. The large DIY community makes them a less painful option to own compared to the RRS.

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Well i went out a did a deal on a little 5.4 S500L, im sure Mercedes wont give me the same standard of customer service that LR did..... I dont want to jinx it also, but i very much doubt i'll have to rebuild the engine in a couple of years either. And if i do i have been assured (salesman waffle) that i will be looked after.

The only issue that my replacment wont be able to offer me an option to tow, i recently built an IVA approved road/track car which i will want to tow down to silverstone etc... As it will only hit 12-15mpg so a little expensive to drive 300 mile. But i can pick up a cheap truck with tow ball for when i need that and then i can use that in the snow also.

As for how i feel about LR.... Well lets just say i'v moved on. I still love the RRS, but even if i was to go out and spend 85-95k on a car the RRS would just not be considerd anymore simply because of how they treat customers, and the issues it WOULD have during ownership. 08MY HSE 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway Grey, Twisted performance cat back... and shed loads of extras!!!

I hope it works out for you Thumbs Up

Unfortunately my cousin and a friend both had big problems with mercs and appalling customer service so I won't touch them with a barge pole Sad

Not sure what I'll buy next because all manufacturers seem to be doing too well so don't need to worry about unhappy customers - have heard some good things about audi though Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Whilst i like the Audi i had a new A4 avant in 2008 that needed a new gearbox, duel mass fly wheel, clutch etc... after 8 months from new, however whilst i was Censored off at the time they just bought the car back off me to which i then did the deal on my RRS.

As for Merc customer services, it's just a case of "the grass is greener..."

As what was said previous, all manufacturers are doing well currently, so they dont care about shocking customer service really. 08MY HSE 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway Grey, Twisted performance cat back... and shed loads of extras!!!

I have had a Merc before, good car but dealer was hopeless.
Had an Audi good car, good dealer.
Had a Jag, great car, great dealer.
I personally would not buy another Merc.
Really is pot luck with what dealer you end up with. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone
Driving a milk float for now.

Some companies back their products properly though - Hyundai, for example, give a 5 year, unlimited mileage, warranty.

A friend has one and after it developed a wiring fault, which they struggled to fix, they just replaced the vehicle. Can't see LR, Audi etc. doing that.

I think the problem with the "aspirational brands" like LR, Audi etc. is that they know enough people desire their products that they don't have to try too hard. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

My Brother bought 5 new Hyundai vehicles for his salesman and they had a problem in winter starting but dealer/Manufacturer refused to sort under warranty blaming fuel. He paid first time to sort but when it happened again he traded them all in for Nissan Jokes and has had not had problem since Confused
