Many years ago when I was a mere boy I worked at an Audi main dealer. We sold a new Cabriolet to a chap who was basically an angrier, heavier version of the worst traveller from the film Snatch.

Prior to delivery the car was broken into and the passenger window smashed. The glass left some scratches on the door panel and it was painted by the dealer's onsite bodyshop. The customer was never told.

On day of delivery, Paddy Knuckle Buster brings his AMG Merc, which was like £30k of the cost and the rest of the lolly in scrunched cash. Everyone was happy. Until... We get a phone call saying his mates say the car has been in the bodyshop, so it has, and what the is going on. They say the paint ain't right, so it isn't. The sales manager says he doesn't know of any issues and there's nothing we can do.

Our fellow says he's coming over to see us. Which he does. Agitated, he points to the paintwork that concerns him and upon being told by the boss there's nothing we can do about it, the aggrieved customer says "if you don't give me all my cash back right now, to be sure to be sure, I'm going to drive this car straight through your bejesus showroom!", saying it like he absolutely means it and pointing at the [very] glass showroom and all the new metal inside it. How could he back down from that threat without looking like a chump? He'd do it, right?

Trembling, the boss went to the safe and got him the cash. A 100% refund, including the p/x value of his Merc which we'd already off loaded.

Definitely a good result,but why,why,why do we have to experience this sort of problem with "trusted" traders,whether it's retailers,energy suppliers etc????

If this is a main dealer, it's astonishing that not only have you had to jump through hoops to get the matter sorted (and well done), but they are also prepared to sacrifice their reputation not only with customers but also with JLR , by initially not telling the truth and then when being exposed, trying to stitch you up ref the loss. Carry on like that, in the manner of a dodgy car dealer, they could lose their dealership. Quite bizarre!

There are so many stories of poor LR franchises that one wonders whether LR actually care! Presumably they feel there are enough people who never know or don't worry about what the dealer is doing to their car; those people will just keep buying in to the brand anyway. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Their rising profits and rocketing sales say it all
