United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Sumatra Black

I have Trackers on my toys. Excellent (although expensive) bits of kit, a great alarm call and response centre, but woefully useless sales team.

Do you think it's acceptable to be so rude to someone working to help customers out?

If that's JLR policy, then that's all Pete can communicate - he can't magically make JLR change the system to suit your own personal needs.

Also just remember that JLR cannot rush a system change onto the market, even if they want to - it takes months to sign off a product change for production or retrofit due to the diligence they have to carry out.

If you wouldn't speak to Pete like that on the phone or face-to-face, don't do it here. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I tell it as I see it. My view - and I am an engineer so understand the issues - is that given the reported key cloning vulnerability of the car, a Cat 6 tracker is not fit for purpose because it doesn't alarm when the car moves with a cloned key.

It remains to be seen whether my insurance company will cover my SVR which is said to be arriving shortly without the additional protection of a Cat 5 tracker or at all.

Land Rover could have implemented Cat 5 from the outset but their penny-pinching has lead to a Cat 6 instead. They may of course move to Cat 5 in the future.

As an interim, they could do worse than factory fit a Cobra tracker to avoid the need for the car to come apart in the after-market. Mark

It wouldn't take much to programme InControl Secure to alarm if the car moved without the phone being connected via Bluetooth? i.e. make the phone a fob.

Well that's an interesting suggestion - the phone after all has a unique hardware ID though whether that is available across the BT connection, I do not know. You'd also have to provide a secure way of pairing the phone to the car which couldn't be hacked. Mark

It would be pretty secure if InControl only accepted one paired phone at a time and unpairing had to be done from either the paired phone or from the InControl Secure Centre.

This is exactly the system I had on my V8 Vantages, Coupe then Roadster. It came with a bluetooth fob but you could call the call centre whilst sat in the car and have your bluetooth mobile configured to act as the fob instead.

It was ideal as I'd always have my phone on me when driving and never had to worry about forgetting the fob - especially as the advice was to not store the keys with the fob, in case someone broke into your house for the keys.

This would surely be relatively straight forward to implement with InSecure (as I prefer to currently call it!). Might be challenge with more than one regular driver (with different mobiles) but in those cases then you use the fob. SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

SOLD - 64 plate Aleutian Silver Supercharged

SOLD - 63 plate Corris SDV6 Autobiography

My insurance company are refusing to cover the car at all at the moment. It would be in a private underground garage in London with CCTV, two sets of security gates/shutters and 24 hour security.

As I have said, the security of this car is not fit for purpose. Mark

Which insurers, and what are they asking for? Or, if a refusal outright, you can store it in my garage and I'll look after it for you. Razz

Admiral. Tough to know whether it's because the car is new or because of the car itself. At the moment, no quote. Mark

I guess London is the big problem, with tracker less than £300, without under £400. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Admiral were quoting me 900 pounds a year. Admittedly for an HSE rather than SVR. And I live in London.

Agree that LR really need to address their security given than in control is only cat 6.
I'd be interested to know how many of the RRSs stolen in London have been successfully tracked and retrieved using in control.

Dealers are clueless to help - their best suggestion was to get a crook lock!

I can't undestand why LR don't offer an option without a keyless go! Mercedes do!
