I use a CTEK MXS 5.0. It is a smart charger and can deal with deep discharged batteries. For keeping batteries charged up while the car is parked up for extended periods, I have used it to trickle charge through a 12v accessory socket (needs to be one that is powered even when the ignition is off), on a Volvo not on a Sport yet. You need an accessory to do this though. I believe there is also an accessory sold through the forum that allows charging through the towbar electrics connector which would allow charging while the car was locked up. |

Got my ctek charger today and plugged in. Connected it up but after a minute or so the charger goes into energy saver mode - I don't think its charging? I can't see what I've done wrong in connecting the battery terminals up. Admittedly I have an issue in that I can't open up the bonnet fully (due to a shelf) but I can open enough to see where I'm plugging the clips into.

Make sure you have the correct mode selected on the charger itself. |

Yes. Just had the same problem. The c tek will not charge a totally flat battery. You need to get an ordinary charger on it first, or jump start it to get some juice into the battery. Once the battery has a little bit of power the c tek will work. I think it needs 1.5-2 volts for the c tek to recognise it.

Power saving mode is when the green led flashes because it thinks its not connected to a battery- in this case because it's too flat |

Thanks il try the jump start - do I need to fire up the Range's engine, or just wire up from the second car and leave that one running for a while?

I'd probably Fire it up and leave it for a bit. I put mine on an old halfords charger for a couple of hours and then put the c tek on in recondition mode and after three days it's gone through all its processes.

Hi, need a little help as i'm now able to get this process done. So i connected up the battery to another car via jump leads and left the donor car running for a couple of minutes so far. Tried firing up the RRS, its tries a bit then fails (gets a transmission fault too). Im assuming its still the battery - so question -

just a little update the jumo leads have done enough to get the ctek charger working so now thats running on a recondition. Once complete hopefully the car should be fine (fingers crossed!) |
