Stealers, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Right I'm absolutely hoping mad and it's a long story.

Car went to the dealers with a suspected alternator fault and they've come back with a list and bill of £1200 and that doesn't include the alternator!!!!!!!!

But the final straw was when they phoned this morning to say that the tailgate is still stuck half open half closed.

And they want to charge me the best part of £400 to break the interior panel so that they can replace the locking mechanism.

It was fine before it went in, I've told them that they can leave it as it is and I will attempt to fix it myself.

Anyone got any advise.

Is this a main stealer? if it is you need to find an honest independent ?

Just got it back and spent about 5 min's trying to get it to shut (or open) but no joy.

Found a Indy not too far away so going to pay them a visit shortly to see if they can help but not sure if they will be too interested.

Ok so the indy said that they could look at it but would advise that they too might have to damage the rear panel.

Anyway I've just spent 15 mins trying all the combinations mentioned in other posts and nothing happened, in the end it just took a bit of brut force i.e. I got annoyed and gave it a good kick with my size 12's.

It's now working fine, finger's crossed it stays like that.

Thanks for all you advise guys

Stealers are good at doing it the longest way round = most expensive. I only get a dealer to service the car to keep its history, learnt the hard way that anything else can be done better by myself. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

So what was the initial bill of £1,200 for if it didn't even address what you sent it in for in the first place?

New Battery @ £325, old battery was tested as been ok, they just advise it needed changing!!!!!
Front Brake pads low @ £316, This will be a DIY job once the warning light appears.
Anti roll bar bushes @ £209, didn't have to pay for this as it was only just 24 months since they were changed.
Rear tailgate @ £365 if they needed to replace the lock and panel.

All soon adds up, I didn't pay anything but will need to sort the battery and pads out at some stage.

Pads are easy enough to do yourself (see my link in my sig) and battery can be had cheaper than that, even for the LR gel battery (which is the best really). Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Find an independent that uses LR or OEM parts.

LR AGP Battery, fitted, was £225ish

£316 for front brake pads is mind blowing. 1hr labour plus £70 in Brembo parts £150 would cover it.

Ah stealers Huh. I got a new battery from Mercedes when I sent my E Class in and it cost 4 and a half times more than any other high end battery available anywhere else. When I queried them as to why it was so
Expensive they said the current it releases is suitable for only MB vehicles.

Needless to say I won't be getting any more batteries through my dealer ....
