developed a squeak

hi all

I seem to have developed a squeak when driving. i only noticed this last night with the window down but it seems to be coming from the drivers wheel. if i flick the wheel slightly it goes for a bit and then comes back. could the be something simple before i take it back to the dealer and look a right numpty. ill have a look over the weekend if pointed in the right direction.

cheers

jay

Is it an on-going sound when driving in a straight line?

I had this on my old car and it disappeared when turning the wheel before returning....turned out to be a simple stone (about the size of a grain of sand) caught in the brake shoe (Supposed to protect the back of the disk) that the disk kept rubbing on. Sounded awful though!

Wheel off, stone out....problem solved. Now

Sorry rich. Ive just gone to my posts and noticed what I typed isnt there . I wasnt ignoring your reply. I took into my local service centre for a pre mot and they did say the car was spot on with the exception my rear pads could do with changing soon. This will be done this friday. What I have noticed is that the squeek only happens when warm and its embarrassing. I left my house for a 20 mile round trip(10 miles each way to drop my son off home) and all was silent. I had the window down for the whole trip. On the return journey the squeaking started and eventually got unbearable. Could this be the rear pads rubbing metal on metal. I find it odd that a quick 2 mile trip down the road is silent

Thanks

Jay

Hi Jay,

I have a problem which sounds exactly the same as yours, its been to the main dealer 3 times and on the 3rd occasion they diagnosed the problem as the rear diff!!! I haven't got round to replacing it yet but I wont be using the car much for the next few months so I might get it booked in and replaced.

that sounds costly. i was also informed that it could be as simple as the grease worn off back of the pads when people jet wash them but unlikely to be that simple. ill let you know the outcome tomorrow mate
