Hi guys, had the car about 6 weeks now. Love it, done a few bits, and really found the site useful. Most days!!
I know they are not economical and it's not a question of money, I'm just concerned I'm getting low mpg compared to most.

Granted, it doesn't get used for long motorway trips but still seems low.

When purchased shirt trips 19.1 mpg, longer 19.3.

Since purchase EGRs blanked.
MAF sensor removed and cleaned. Immediate increase to 20.1 MPG short trips and 20.2 Motorway.

It's a 2005 TDV6.

I read posts with people at 23/27 even 30.

Doesn't seem to be a change between nitro diesel plus and supermarket.

Is this normal perhaps due to age? 97k on clock.

What can I do to improve it.

I am not gunning it every wgere either?

You can always add 250 ml of 2T next time you fill up, loads of info on here, plus the Disco & Freelander forum. Simple FB mineral oils will do.

When was it last serviced? An oil change and air filter change will probably give you another 1 mpg at least. If the brake light switch is faulty it may not be telling the engine ECU to cut the fuel when throttle pedal is released as it should do. Use premium diesel to help clean the engine. Having the fault codes read just in case there is something else wrong would be a good idea. Most importantly take it for a really good long run like about 300 miles and see what you get. If the previous owner used cheap fuel and just did the school run it takes a while to clean up the engine. Mine was similarly thirsty but now returning 27 mpg on run off mixed motorway and B roads. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

as SRE says don't believe the trip comp, do a few brim to brim fills and work it out from that, you might be surprised

ours reads 24-25 but did a few back to back brim fills and actually getting 28-30 I think it reads US gallons and not "proper" ones given up checking now just have to fill it up when SWMBO lets me drive it

try releasing brakes when on a very slight slope to see if brakes sticking a bit

Your MPG does seem a bit low
I have the 2.7V6 engine with 97000 on the clock but I am averaging 29 to 30 mpg (calculated) - (obc reading 32.4) on my weekly commute which involves a daily round trip of 30 miles of mixed town and A roads but never generally going over 40 mph. On a recent round trip to Cornwall for a weeks holiday, the car averaged 34 mpg, which included a week of going up and own those surprisingly steep hills in Cornwall.
Have you checked that any of your brake callipers are not binding?
A recent gearbox flush also seems to have helped reduce my fuel consumption.
I do drive carefully, looking ahead and not adopting the accelerator / brake method of driving, which may be why I am getting these mpg figures.
My car is also properly serviced and tyres pressures as they should be (Goodyear excellence tyres)
Check the obvious things first - tyres, brakes or driving style.

I'm getting about 410 per tank so actually that's 22. Still low.
I may get the filters done for peace of mind.
Had fault codes read recently. No brake issues and nothing staying on.
I'll try 2T method and keep filling with premium.

I've gone from a foot to the floor driver to a very steady driver and just enjoy the comfy ness of the drive.
Hired an M4 last week and hated it where as before it would have been up my street!!

Hopefully I'll see an improvement soon!

I'll follow this one closely, recently purchased a TDV6 and I don't think i'm getting what I should be. I do a 40 mile round commute mostly A roads with a little town driving and I returned 19.2 MPG on the last tank, this included a Hyperchips remap mid way through.

Dan did you clean your MAF? As I said I got a slight increase after this.

Also guys is anyone using additives? From what I can see it's a no no???

Not as of yet, I'll do it this week end and may change the brake light switch for the sake of it - see what this does....

Quick update, I haven't cleaned the MAF sensor or fitted the brake light switch yet I did however take it for a good run at a strictly legal 70mph. Did 200 miles and it seems to have blown off the cobwebs in conjunction with the Re-map, now returning 25MPG on the daily 40 mile commute.

Well I've had a few good runs of late. Mine seems to stick and I have to reset it 3 times but I'm back up to av 27.
