E-Tech tint spray.

I really like the look of this RRS in the pic. Mine is same colour, however don't fancy £300+ for replacement lights.

Has anyone tried tint spray?? I've watched a few bits on YouTube and results seem quite good.

James

i did the ones on my x5 with some film called lamin-x, its slightly more expensive than tint spray but you can just peel it off should you get bored or sell on

I have heard sprays give mixed result, the like you see on a Chaved Corsa

LaminX though I have seen good finish with as its a film that goes over the top, though air bubbles can be left especially around things like the raise lettering you can find on lights

Ive used it before and it was fine.

You need to remove the unit being tinted, and spray like you would with paint. Thin layers, allowed to dry etc.

Allows you to go as light, or dark as you want.

I'm also going to speak to Fly Eye tomorrow about their flexible tint wrap. Could be an option. Also Plasti Dip do one which I have had exp doing alloys and may be the way to go.

With regards to the Plasti Dip on the alloys, how long did it last? Ive been looking at this but not entirely sure of the durability and longevity of colouring the wheels using this method?

Im looking at either Black for the wheels, or Anthracite. The Anthracite I can only locate in the US, so if Im going down that route it might will be bog standard paint instead of the plasti dip route 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

It was still on the car looking great when I sold it. The trick is to prep the wheels first with panel wipe. Get more than you think you need and do it a few times to make sure surface is ready. For 4 alloys I used about 3 litres!

Then allow twice as much time and twice as many cans as you think you will need.

The trick is very very light costs and lots of them. I did gun metal over standard silver alloys and the first 2 light coats you could barely see. But then it started to build up and had excellent results.

They say 4-6 coats. Personally I'd go for 8 coats. Lots of cups of tea and at least 15 mins between coats.

Could be worth speaking to car dip uk as they will make up any colour you want.

I have used e-tint on my RRS.

Good results but make sure you prep the lens with the wipes provided etc and spray in layers as suggested. Thumbs Up

What were the results like? Look good or as suggested chavvy?

Having looked at so many videos on line I'm pretty sure I will try plasti tint. I'm not after a really dark look so probally go 2-3 coats smoke and 2 coats glossifier.

The pics are in my gallery.

I think they look good - I went for the stealth look with my car as it is java black.

they look very patchy to me on the bigger photo via your gallery Confused

especially around the lower red section and up the right hand side, they also look to have a just rough matt painted finish on them.

once you have a all over even coverage, can they not been lacquered and polished to give a glossy 'darker' OEM finish Idea

Shouldn't need any lacquer. I used the red variant on my old E30 Touring about 5 years ago:

Only did the orange outer parts where the indicators are (about where the tailgate joins the rear 1/4), but it matched pretty well and was a glossy looking as the rest of the unit (excuse the over-processing of the photo though).

You can get some good results with the sprays if you take your time.

Cheers..

Ian

it is more a matt finish

The patchiness is probably more my sparying skills rather than the product Laughing

Flydive they look awesome.
One of my concerns was the already bad reversing light but you have solved that.

What tint did you use? How many coats? Leave lights on or remove?

I take it you just masked up area you wanted left.

Tganks
