Leaving an RRS Sitting for 2 Weeks at a Time All Year Round

Morning All

My job requires me to be away for 2 weeks at a time. Therefore car would be drives for 2 weeks then Sit idle for
2 weeks

Anyone on here had experience leaving an RRS idle for this period again and again all year round?

Or would you recommend getting a Battery Tender. My previous 2009 M3 fired up all the time every time, but I have my bikes hooked up to the power via a socket.

Car should be a 2012 RRS

Not quite a 2 week regular roster but sometimes 3 weeks at a time, my RRS was fine. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2009 Buckingham Blue RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2010 Alaska White RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Gone - 2017 Chawton White RRS 5.0 V8 Supercharged
Current - 2010 Java Black RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Current- 2024 RRS P400 SE Dynamic

Been on rotation for 17 years 2 weeks away every month & not had any issues with any RRS or Full Fat

As Ady said - put it in access mode - I used to use SWMBOs FL1 during winter when I had the previous sport and never had a problem starting RRS after long periods sat in garage in access mode Thumbs Up

I have a CTEK now for current sport because it has timed climate, etc and get low battery warning due to short runs in winter but it always started Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

The suspension is self levelling, for example, if your vehicle is left in normal height and it is windy or some of the air leaks out of the system, the vehicle will level the car up automatically, and this uses power from the battery to do so. So potentially, you could come back to a drained battery. Wink Same as when you go on a ferry, its always best to put the vehicle in access mode. Thumbs Up

That's interesting to know & probably explains why I had no problems leaving my car in its garage for weeks on end as I had to use access height to get it in Very Happy

Ady 55,

If I leave my RRS parked at normal ride height for a couple of days it sinks to access mode hight. Is this normal, or do I have a problem?

My ole RR would drop to access height from normal height over the course of a day at work when it was in a covered garage.

Turned out there were leaks in the air lines/bladders.

IMO, you should be able to leave it at normal for a few days without it dropping to access mode. 2013 RRS HSE Lux, Fuji White w/Silver Pkg, 5.0 V8

The levelling cycle does not run continuously and should not run the battery down. It does its first check after 2 hrs, then runs a few cycles every 6 hours before ceasing (amount of cycles varies with software and model year). Clearly it can only adjust downwards.

As a result a vehicle at normal or extended height with no leaks can sit there for months, hardly dropping at all. The negative side of this is that a vehicle with a leak that is isolated to a particular corner / side / end can be found at a rakish angle in the morning as the leak will continue after the levelling self-check has ceased.

Left mine for 5 months at normal height. A bit of a rough start but it did on first twist of the key and the suspension was far from flat.
