Spoke to garage last evening for an update. Only just gone on the ramp but they're hopeful to have it back to me today. We'll see.

Part of me hopes the hose has failed as that way they have to fit a new, clean hose. My guess is they'll just slap the old one back on and hope it stays on this time... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Apparently another new turbo is now on order. Ah well. Garage / LR paying for the loan car now as it's a parts warranty claim, not a LR Extended Warranty claim. Hoping to have it back to me by Thursday next week.

I've asked them to give me a valuation on the TDV8. I need to have a serious think about its future with me... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's not so good, Rolling Eyes does seem to be normal though. It's about time someone at LR put their hands up and admitted they have issues.
You are exactly where I was when I lost faith in both the product and those entrusted with fixing it by both the manufacturer and myself.
I still hurts when I open door and Fullfat is sat there and not my Sport, They are addictive but the reliability issues does test your loyalty. May I suggest a chat with the Exec office at LR, and not customer service/relations. They might be prepared to contribute a % to a newer car to keep you in the brand...........
Sorry it's such crap news on a Friday night, go have a bottle Bow down 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I hope you get a good result as the tdv8 is a great motor.

On the new car topic, I was all for putting a deposit on the disco sport till I read it had the 2.2 engine. That it was freelander size and seat 6/7 were small.

I had a fullfat and the gearbox failed at 60k, new radiators and bushes too.

I'd be tempted by a discovery if I were to stay with the brand.

If not it would be a q7 if I could get used to the rake on the windscreen.

Very sorry to hear TDV8's problems with the turbo failure. I wonder if it would be possible to search the forum and put together a spreadsheet listing mileage that failures have occurred along with service intervals. As I've banged on about before (sorry!) The recommended interval between oil changes of 15,000 seems ridiculously long - dreamed up by marketing men not engineers. To try and protect my engine I have been changing oil and filter at 7,000 miles. For what it's worth I just recently did a change and have been accurately monitoring the fuel consumption with the road trip app. After oil changes the fuel consumption consistently improves by about 1.5 mpg. That must say something about the oil losing its lubricating properties? Imagine leaving it for another 7000 miles - no thanks.

Just waiting for Camelrock to come along now and back me up (changes his every 5k IIRC)! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

The small 6/7 seats in the DSport wouldn't worry me but I'd want the Ingenium engine.

I had a Golf that lunched its gearbox at 66k miles...the day before we were due to drive on holiday. Took SWMBO's old Punto. That was a bit trying.

I'm tempted by the D4. The space in the boot is appealing. Has the same overall "hewn from a lump of something hard and heavy" feel that I get from the RRS.

Not interested in the Q7 but I do wonder about the VW Touareg in "Escape" trim. That's the "off-road version" with centre and rear locking diffs. Starts out at a reasonable price but I reckon I'd want a few k in options. But it would be a very well specced bit of kit for much less than a new "ordinary spec" RRS. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You must be joking...!

Went to pick up the TDV8 from the dealer. Drove away from the garage and "whoa! the steering's loose!". Felt like driving a Series 1 it had so much play around the straight ahead. Turned around and straight back to the garage. Walked in and simply said "they haven't put it back together properly". The service manager came out, took the keys and put it on a ramp. The technician says to me: "I put on the sheet that the steering has play in it". Sure enough, the rack needs to be replaced. Good job I extended the warranty then. I asked about getting the suspension compressor sorted too as it's very tired. Hoping that will be a warranty claim too. Fingers crossed.

I can't see how the vehicle was returned to me in this state. Amazing. I didn't lose my rag with anyone. Maybe the "quiet and obviously unimpressed" routine is the better way.

Oh, and I mentioned that there was a couple of undershield bolts missing that had been there when I dropped it off with them 9 days ago. "Oh, the bolt crossed threaded and broke the captive nut". Well, I'd like it replacing then please - I use it off road and I don't want loose underbody plates thanks. Remarkable.

They've given me a 400 mile old TD4 FL2 for the weekend. The first time I've driven a manual in many months. I think I prefer automatics now. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Blimey, that's shocking. Did they not test drive it before they completed the job? This doesn't generate a lot of confidence in Land Rover products and the dealer network. Range Rover - 4.4SDV8 Autobiography - Corris and Black

They apparently did a 40+ mile road test after doing the turbo. I drove 100m and felt that the vehicle was unsafe to drive further! The steering slack was such that you turn the wheel and nothing happens for the first 15-20 deg of lock then suddenly the slack is gone and you're struggling not to stuff it in to the hedge as it reacts!

I'm increasingly of the opinion that LR's reliability issues are as much the fault of the dealerships as they are the initial factory build. The steering was fine (for something with 80k miles on it) when it went in.

As for the turbo failure (the reason it was with them) it looks like the impeller was damaged. A nut and part of the shaft were found elsewhere in the induction pipework after they stripped the front end out to find them and clean the pipework. The main question in my mind is why did the impeller fail? Was it the result of the previous repair not thoroughly cleaning the induction pipework and so allowing detritus to remain which eventually got back to the impeller? Then I begin to wonder how long before the engine swallows something and is wrecked.

I'm toying with keeping the TDV8 and just using it for off road days and holidays. It always causes a stir when it goes off road and it is so very good at it too. I'd love to take it on one of the European off road trips (Portugal or the Pyrenees) but I'm not convinced it would be reliable. Which is sad because the reality is that it probably would be fine. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Picked up the RRS from the dealership this evening. New steering rack, track rods (including inner joints but not the outer joints as they apparently aren't worn - I'd offered to pay for new ones but this wasn't done which seems daft on a 80k mile vehicle), lower steering column (from the UJ down to the rack) and a new AMK compressor. All done under LR Extended warranty.

Bizarrely, they didn't do an alignment check after fitting the rack. I do not understand the logic. I shall take it elsewhere tomorrow to get it "Hunter checked". The steering feels like it's out of toe so it needs doing.

Also, a piece of trim was sat on the back seat when I got home. The driver's side rear wheel arch forward trim (the bit that wraps around the rear arch and that the door shuts against). No idea why this was off but luckily it just clicked in to place. No idea why it wasn't put back on by whoever took it off in the first place.

Anyway, after 2 weeks of driving Freelanders (I prefer the manual gearbox TD4 to the auto-box SD4 for some reason), I'm happy to have my RRS back with me. I just hope it can do a few trouble-free months now... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
