Spoke to garage last evening for an update. Only just gone on the ramp but they're hopeful to have it back to me today. We'll see.

Apparently another new turbo is now on order. Ah well. Garage / LR paying for the loan car now as it's a parts warranty claim, not a LR Extended Warranty claim. Hoping to have it back to me by Thursday next week.

I might do, will have to see what's about. I'm tempted to go FFRR but... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's not so good, does seem to be normal though. It's about time someone at LR put their hands up and admitted they have issues.

Very sorry to hear TDV8's problems with the turbo failure. I wonder if it would be possible to search the forum and put together a spreadsheet listing mileage that failures have occurred along with service intervals. As I've banged on about before (sorry!) The recommended interval between oil changes of 15,000 seems ridiculously long - dreamed up by marketing men not engineers. To try and protect my engine I have been changing oil and filter at 7,000 miles. For what it's worth I just recently did a change and have been accurately monitoring the fuel consumption with the road trip app. After oil changes the fuel consumption consistently improves by about 1.5 mpg. That must say something about the oil losing its lubricating properties? Imagine leaving it for another 7000 miles - no thanks.

The small 6/7 seats in the DSport wouldn't worry me but I'd want the Ingenium engine. I had a Golf that lunched its gearbox at 66k miles...the day before we were due to drive on holiday. Took SWMBO's old Punto. That was a bit trying. I'm tempted by the D4. The space in the boot is appealing. Has the same overall "hewn from a lump of something hard and heavy" feel that I get from the RRS. Not interested in the Q7 but I do wonder about the VW Touareg in "Escape" trim. That's the "off-road version" with centre and rear locking diffs. Starts out at a reasonable price but I reckon I'd want a few k in options. But it would be a very well specced bit of kit for much less than a new "ordinary spec" RRS. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Went to pick up the TDV8 from the dealer. Drove away from the garage and "whoa! the steering's loose!". Felt like driving a Series 1 it had so much play around the straight ahead. Turned around and straight back to the garage. Walked in and simply said "they haven't put it back together properly". The service manager came out, took the keys and put it on a ramp. The technician says to me: "I put on the sheet that the steering has play in it". Sure enough, the rack needs to be replaced. Good job I extended the warranty then. I asked about getting the suspension compressor sorted too as it's very tired. Hoping that will be a warranty claim too. Fingers crossed.

Blimey, that's shocking. Did they not test drive it before they completed the job? This doesn't generate a lot of confidence in Land Rover products and the dealer network. Range Rover - 4.4SDV8 Autobiography - Corris and Black

They apparently did a 40+ mile road test after doing the turbo. I drove 100m and felt that the vehicle was unsafe to drive further! The steering slack was such that you turn the wheel and nothing happens for the first 15-20 deg of lock then suddenly the slack is gone and you're struggling not to stuff it in to the hedge as it reacts!

Picked up the RRS from the dealership this evening. New steering rack, track rods (including inner joints but not the outer joints as they apparently aren't worn - I'd offered to pay for new ones but this wasn't done which seems daft on a 80k mile vehicle), lower steering column (from the UJ down to the rack) and a new AMK compressor. All done under LR Extended warranty.
