For all the newbies wondering about running costs......

I see so many posts on here now with new members wanting to know if they can afford to run an RRS. last month i was very much in the "its not much more than a saloon" camp, but after four and a half years of trouble free motoring, that has just come to an abrupt end!

in the last 30 days mine has been in the garage 3 times for:

3 wishbones (including the bushes) to cure the knocking

new air suspension compressor

rear door latch

EPB motor/brake linings

each of the 3 times it has been in, the garage has relieved me of £7-800 (plus £180 to get recovered when the Brake jammed on)

probably the moral of the story is to get a warranty - this would have saved the joining/recovery fee from the AA, and probably half of my total spend!
Luckly it is a company car, but that doesnt stop me from getting stick from employees who i wont let them change car this year because of slow trading conditions Whistle

what else can go wrong.......

yours, pennyless

Very true, BC!
Can only hope it will run for another year without needing attention! Still love it to bits, which is why I would be reluctant to part with it!

Cheers

I must admit that when i read of the many issues posted on here i do wonder if and when i might have faults/repair bills coming my way.
The 5 series Beemer i ran before the sport was trouble free and stuff failing or breaking rarely crossed my mind. but i s'pose there's a lot more to go wrong....................

That's quite a short list in the scheme of RRS ownership but it is worrying when you get a few things going pop one after the other. Big Cry

Hopefully that's your trouble done for a while Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I suppose that's the trouble with keeping a car long term, you eventually run out of luck!
One of my previous imprezas ended up with my father, and he kept it running from 3 to 14 years old with nothing but a service each year!
Fingers crossed, that's all I need for a while!

Cheers

I tell everyone who asks this question, you need to allow at least £1,000 a year, to keep on top of servicing and repairs Thumbs Up

£700 min for dealer annual service, Fullfat just serviced at local dealer cost me £802 inc oils and filters, add £155 for front pads ( not fitted but in boot) as they close to the end and I do less than 3000 miles a year. Add % cost for tyres and other consumables and £1000 under-eggs the cake me thinks. When I used my Sport properly, 10-15k a year, add in another grand for tyres, a set of wipers and few other bits, costs were @ 2500 a year plus fuel. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

My £1000 was staying out of the dealer network Thumbs Up I wouldn't get away with, or even try getting away with a £700 service! Laughing

When it comes to "breakdowns and failures" I have had to replace a tailgate latch and a caliper in the last 12 months, less than £100. The rest has been spent on making it look/go better, and the consequences of doing so Thumbs Up

Thats what i thought, Ady, but now realise that for some parts on the car, its a case of when, not if they break!

cheers

It's more but worth it!

12000 miles @ 26mpg = £2725 a rough sport mpg?
12000 miles @ 46mpg = £1540 a4 2.0 tdi ?

That's about £24 a weeks difference.

Sport tax £475 or is it £500 now.
A4 £140 app

£7 a week difference.

Insurance was hardly different.

I've don't just over 9k in my sports so far.

Rear anti roll bar bushes with new bolts £37
Injector spill rail o ring 92p
Minor service at LR £170
Needs wipers as they are getting noisy.

So far touching every bit of wood near me it's been ok.
