Thanks, I know it's easy to be swayed by the horror stories you read in the internet, but the TDV8 turbo failures are a worry.

I think I read that they are still Brambo's but without the logo! |

My advice is the same as previously offered, look at a different model. The V8 engine and turbos in a Sport are too fragile and to be honest was the final nail in the coffin of not buying a new £89000 SDV8. I have zero faith in the engine set up and I believe there have been a couple of "issues" with the new model. The old model was great but the lack of build quality and reliability would put me off. I know there are plenty out there that have never had any issues but experience and then this forum and others tells its own story. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I had the same concerns when I bought mine 6 months ago but I drove three different 3.0 TDV6's but had already been spoilt by test driving a TDV8 which performed far better than the TDV6's. So far, I have had no problems with the car at all and I hope that a combination of regular oil changes, careful warm up/cool down and the landrover warranty will avoid me having to dip into my pocket.

Having owned mine from new, had it serviced at less than mileage and treated it well, it still shat itself at 48000 miles, gave years of problems and numerous arguments I'm pleased to say I don't own it. I hate the barge, and will change it next year once I recover from buying a new lorry which was an unexpected purchase this year. The only problem is what I replace it with 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

My advice would be to wait for exactly the right car for you. Don't rush buy. colour - lots of black out there (it's probably the most popular colour), side steps are an easy and cheap retro-fit item so shouldn't be an issue, finance price - to be brutally honest, if the price is a deal breaker then you'll possibly find the cost of ownership to be too high. Even with a warranty there are things that aren't covered but do fail e.g. suspension bushes. Also, the TDV8 is fairly thirsty - especially compared to the SDV6. Around town you're realistically looking at 20-22mpg if you're gentle, less if you do short runs. If you do short runs then the TDV8 isn't the right vehicle - they like to be warmed up and cooled down. The temptation to open the taps when it's still cold can lead to problems as already mentioned. locality - it's always worth travelling for the right car, looks - they all look pretty much the same and can easily be tweaked later on as many on here have done. If you think you'd be happier with the SDV6 (and it's a fine engine) then I'd wait for the right one with that lump up front. Good luck with your purchase, whatever you end up with 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Although, back in May you did say; Well....that's a no then. According to the "salesman", a 2009 Sport is worth £7800 more than a 2010 Vogue. That will be a no then, time to cast the net wider. What I did learn is that I couldn't live with V6 of any sort, so V8 it will be. You came very close to another one! |

Thanks all. Its a hard call, but i am going to look at the TDV8 anyway, just to make sure I am making the right choice generally. Current car is a 2010 X5 35d, the X5 is just out of (AUC) warranty and I am seeking a slightly cheaper finance package, plus a new car will come with a manufacturer backed warranty (one or two years). The newer SDV6 appeals with the 8 speed box (?) with rotary gear knob, most will have a bit of manufacturers warranty with them too. |

Looked at the TDV8 but didn't drive it. To be honest its a no go for me, graphite wheels not to my taste, not sure if they are OEM LR to be honest, they must be i guess. It looked too 'gangster' for me and I have been put off by the V8 diesel. We only do fairly low miles , about 6000 per year, and my wife will do lots of short journeys, so maybe not the sort of profile you should have for an otherwise problematic big diesel engine

Nothing wrong with gangster, but agree you won't be doing yourself any favours with short mileage and big engine, you should look at a petrol, if I had it all to do again probably have gone that route. Only downside is that my fuel card wouldn't allow me to buy petrol so went for diesel but even now I only ever put a tank of fuel in car every other month, the trade off from buying a Sport that kept breaking down was that I eventually went out and bought a L200 as I never had a tow vehicle when I needed one and Sport was in being fixed........😂🔫 2x TDV6. are the big petrols (5.0 and 4.2 S/C I guess) really really bad on fuel compared with the v6/v8 diesel?

Petrols will be cheaper to buy due to reduced demand but also harder to sell. In the 8 years I've been a forum member I can't think of any reports of engine problems. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
