Just wanted to get a feel as to whether there is a common issue with the rear red brake calipers. I've had my car since the 1st March and it's only done about 450 miles (I know but I've not been around), but I noticed early on that the rear brake calipers have a lot of paint defects in that especially on corners and creases the paint is actually chipping off such that the base metal of the caliper is showing:





I took my car back to the dealer who agreed it was a defect and ordered another pair of calipers and booked the car in for replacement. Great right, however when they went to fit the calipers and opened the parts they were in the same condition as those already on the car . Now, the dealer is ordering up another set of calipers and seeing what condition they arrive in, if it's the same again then they'll have to take it up with Landrover directly

I really can't see why they cheap'ed out on the rear calipers and simply got their component supplier to paint the standard caliper, when the finish of that component is obviously not suited to hold a paint coating without extensive work. The finish on the calipers is quite bad in general they should have gone for the matching brembo enamel finish which is smooth but as you can see the rears are more like you got a tin of paint from halfords and did it yourself.

Anyway that aside, I just wanted to gauge if this is a more common issue, so if you have this as well let me know

There is a thread about the quality and colour mismatch between calipers. Use the Search function at the top of the page.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yep thanks I know the quality has been discussed but I'm really trying to gauge if this defect (paint chipping) is more widespread other than the aesthetics of the colour matching.

Yes, mine has the same problem and is due to go back to the dealers for new calipers.

It appears that LR have a problem with paint adhesion on the calipers, looks like the rear is the biggest issue.

They have also changed the spec on the standard caliper from Black to 'metallic' (ie, unpainted). Connected?

It's taken 2 months waiting for my replacement parts (which were coming from a new supplier - apparently), which were fitted a week back.

However both me and my dealer are not convinced that the finish on the new ones are any different, in fact they have suggested I will probably be back in a few months with the same issue. Given this scenario, they have already raise a product quality case with Landrover and sent my old ones back to them, the case will also remain open until I feedback on progress with the new ones.

So sorry no good news currently but I'll keep you posted on this thread.  Current:

I noticed the other day the black coating on my MY12 calipers is chipping off too, so not a new problem. 

Any updates on the brakes caliper paint quality

The replacement ones I have have been holding out the peeling, however I'm still monitoring the situation and have a quality issue open with Landrover in regards to this, so they are on standby as both the dealer and I are pretty sure it's going to happen again it's just a question of when. However, credit where credit is due Landrover have responded well to my pleas, Pete has also been keeping an eye on the issue so between the dealer and him I'm confident they'll sort something out should the same happen.

I wonder how Jim is getting on though as I remember he was having his replaced before me, so he might have some news. Jim??  Current:
