LTB00420v3 - Suspension Compressor Replacement

Just wondered if anyone had a copy of LTB00420v3 (Suspension Compressor Replacement) which was released on the 20th May 2014 - just wanted to know what was different when compared to the v2 document from 2011.

I'm about to fit the LR045251 kit tomorrow and wanted to make sure I had the latest instructions. Thumbs Up

Can't really justify an hour (£13) or day (£17) TOPIx subscription for just one document!

Cheers, 'tang.

Just in case anyone else wonders...

I replaced the compressor today and, although the LTB00420v2 document refers to the depreciated LR044360 kit, the instructions work just as well for the newer LR045251 kit as all the parts seem identical. There was no issue with following the v2 instructions to fit the kit either.

So, in the end there was no need to get v3 document Very Happy

Did you get software update from the dealers?

I've heard conflicting views on if this is necessary

I ran the software update myself as I managed to find a MongoosePro JLR VCI along with the latest SDD software and updates for a steal on the internet. Searching for "jlr mongoose pro 138" will bring up suppliers like the one I used - I paid just shy of £35 GBP in postage so I might be slightly suspicious of the provenance. After 8 days a paddy bag arrived containing the software DVDs and the VCI cable and it works perfectly.

Anyway, from everything I was able to glean - the software update is highly recommended as it changes how the compressor operates and is monitored - something like lowering the reservoir air pressure, extends the compressor run time and so extends the lifespan of the compressor. Without the update, the RLM ECU can see the operation of the AMK compressor as having fault characteristics as it thinks it's a Hitachi.

Since flashing the new software to the ECU, I have had no issues at all Smile

Hmmm OK, that sounds a bit risky to me, is it possible to Censored things up when you start playing around with that sort of stuff yourself or is it pretty straight forward?

Can you PM me the details of the supplier you purchased from? At that price I think its worth having just as a fault code reader if nothing else.

Thanks

Any reflashing of an ECU could be seen as risky. Worst case, you could trash the ECU completely and need to buy a new one. However, that sort of problem is rare and many firmware images have fallback procedures in the event of a reflash problem.

Of course, all the products out there use the same principals to achieve the same aim (Faultmate, IIDTool, JLR SDD etc) so are all as risky as each other.

I was less concerned about bricking my ECU as I was using JLR's own software to do the reflash (and I took my brave pills too).

I almost forgot to mention that there are a few forum members who can help reflash ECUs in return for beer tokens.

The pirated software it comes with, will work fine, what is often more concerning is the quality of the fake Mongoose cables that are supplied. Glad it worked for you this time though. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Yeah, big brave pills Thumbs Up

I did noticed that the latest software update warns on installation that from now on all new 2014+ cars will no longer be supported by the SDD using the blue MongoosePro VCI. I'm wondering if there will be a new Drew Technologies VCI coming soon to replace it and so there are lots of overstock from the factories being shifted quickly as no-one wants to buy what will be an obsolete bit of kit...

It's still good for my old 2005 RRS and saved me a few £££s Very Happy

Important notice required for all Drew Technologies MongoosePro® Pass thru devices

With the launch of the New Range Rover and Range Rover Sport 14 MY and subsequently all future
14 model year vehicle going forward JLR service diagnostics wishes to advice dealers that they
must not use any of the current "Blue" Drew Technologies MongoosePro® pass thru devices on any
14 model year vehicles.

Please see SSM 65017 or 65037 for further information

The first SSM doesn't apply to my VIN but the second does and is this document (but I can't find the actual document for free anywhere!):

SSM65037 - Important notice required for all Drew Technologies MongoosePro®

Also, recently a new SSM document appeared that might explain the changes/reflashing etc needed to the VCI to make it work with the later vehicles (but I can't find that document for free either!).

SSM71806 - Mongoose Pro JLR Device Update Instructions_V2

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Lastly, and then I promise to go sit in a corner and be quiet.

I just took my MongoosePro apart (4 screws) and had a good look at the circuit board. It's a fully silk screen printed multi-layer board (looks like two external and two internal layers) and really really well made - even down to the perfectly cut non-standard board shape for the casing. The board is even labelled Drew Tech Inc and (c)2005-2013 with a board rev of 6. All solder joints are spot on for all the components (all surface mount).

The USB cable seems to be higher quality than I would expect: it has four cores with the GND and PWR being of a 1mm diameter and the data+/- being of 0.5mm diameter. If I were making a copy, I would use something more standard and cheaper.

Do you think the pirates would go to all this effort?
