anyone replaced rear anti roll bar ?

as above,

put my sport into local dealer to check/replace the ARB bushes and was advised that the rear anti roll bar was rusty/corroded and should be replaced as new bushes would not last very long.

Am now waiting for a price but thought i would ask around here if anyone has had similar experience.

Btw dealer quote to replace bushes was cheaper than indie Shocked which is why it went in

Have replaced a few of the rear ARC actuators. Same process. Needs the back of the body raised from the chassis to get the bar out and in.

Never had to replace one due to corrosion though...

Not particularly difficult.

Once the body mounts are undone, support the body with axle stands or similar, and lower the chassis away from the body. Only need a few inches

If it's an active anti-roll bar then you're looking at over £1k to replace it - it's about £800 for the part alone IIRC! Rear bushes would be <£200 fitted. Even if they only lasted a year it would be cheaper to have them done as an annual service item than get the bar replaced.

Sounds to me like the dealer is trying his luck... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Don't think it's an active bar as they also mentioned a wishbone and a ball joint i think and suggested it would be less than a grand Rolling Eyes still waiting for quote for full breakdown so relying on memory at the minute.
Yes it did cross my mind that i could change the bushes every year or something (if i could manage it myself it would be cheap) if i was sure they would last a year or so but i got no idea

oh also said it would need a 4 wheel alignment

Mikey, not brave enough to do the body lift thing, was seriously tempted to do the arb bushes myself though but the price i got quoted from the dealer was more atractive than the thought of me Censored it up on my drive Laughing

of course that was before the Censored roll bar came to light

I would still be doing the bushes. If needed, shim them too to tighten everything up that bit more

Thanks for reply Mikey, what, just the bushes onto the existing roll bar ? do you reckon they might last a year or so then?

Got under car just now and can clearly see the rust/lack of paint on the bar so i guess the bar will continue to rust away

Do the bushes grip the bar or does the bar move within the bush Rolling Eyes

Out of interest as there is still a lot of rubber on the bush, what is the knocking, it sounds quite heavy in the car so does the bar knock against something or is it more complex than that Confused

BTW thanks for the input Mikey Thumbs Up

Update,
car went into indi yesterday and had the front and back arb bushes done, i can't believe the difference it makes, the car is now silent over bumps etc, before it was knocking like anything, such a simple thing makes a big difference
