Who uses sport mode and when?

FWIW I do mixed driving but a lot of it is around town.

I use the steering wheel paddles more than sport mode. In the older car I used sport mode more than command shift - just found command shift a bit cumbersome to use with the stick. I mainly use CS for shifting to a lower gear to overtake and to slow down with minimal use of brakes when going downhill.

My understanding is that sport mode just holds lower gears for a bit longer before shifting up. Is that the only thing it does?

Ahh, the lower gear higher rev thing makes sense, my other car is a Cayman manual and it took a bit of getting used to but I tend to work the lower gears a bit and keep the revs up, which feels better around the lanes. Then just keep the 6th gear for the motorways.
So that said the sport mode seems to feel more like this style of driving to me, hence the initial post.

The only thing I miss in the rr is the exhaust tone when revving up but i suppose I need to get a grip and realise this is not made for the monte carlo rally Very Happy

2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Buckingham Blue

I only use it for overtaking sunday drivers doing 30 in NSL areas. The car makes a glorious noise at higher revs but it gets to license loosing speed far too quickly.

I use it when I want to do a quick overtake or I have some idiot tail gating me.

The tail gating idiot seems quite surprised when my 3 ton 4.2 SC car pulls away from him so fast !!

And that sound of the engine revving never gets old Very Happy 2006 RRS SC Bonatti Grey (the 55th car/van I have owned)

I use sport mode quite often, usually in conjunction with dynamic response and paddle shift, great combination for twisty country lanes or traffic light suprises with more than one lane... Wink I don't use paddleshift to slow my vehicle down Shocked Brake pads are far cheaper to replace than a gearbox.

It's not about conserving brake pads/discs. Engine braking downhill is supposed to be safer and can prevent brakes from overheating and failing.

Most of my driving is in town, I use it similarly to Martyn and I also have paddles which I don't use as nuch as I thought I would. Sport mode seems to keep most people off my bumper and wins my traffic light races. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Got a nice stretch of twisty road leading up to/away from my office so it's hard to resist most mornings, and evening. Even surprised my mate in his RS4 when I didn't slow down as much as he expected me to for the corners. Dynamic Response is surprisingly good Bow down 2016 VW Golf GTD DSG

Love dynamic mode. Have done some interesting stuff on twisty country roads that I wouldn't dream of doing without putting the RRS in dynamic mode. If it wasn't for the harsher ride, I would always keep it in dynamic.

I find it tends to usefully hold a lower gear around roundabouts which helps go round and out of them when pressing on, other than that, I rarely do.

very first handbook back in 2005 recommended to use sport mode on twisty country roads and hilly roads. I have always used it like this. For roundabouts and joining long curve motorway junctions, sport and dynamic. Gives a bite and u needn't slow down....Smile
