Warranty issues

so after 8 months of buying an approved used land rover from a main dealer, the car is in for some minor warranty work.
to list out;

- fuel gauge reads zero when diesel in the tank
- noisy air suspension compressor
- sticky boot latch (takes two or three attempts to lock closed)
- gear box hesitation / juddering (takes a couple of seconds to realise what gear it needs to be in when dropping from high speed)

dropped car off on Wednesday and got the call today to say that LAND ROVER WARRANTY are refusing to cover everything. This is their reasons;

- fuel gauge reads zero (this is a modification that's needed, not a mechanical failure). Is it me, or is this a load of utter Censored

- noisy air suspension compressor (havent heard back on the verdict of this but i imagine given the above they will try and find an excuse)

- sticky boot latch (not covered, wear and tear)

- gear box hesitation (not covered, needs software update/gear box adaptation software which is a modifcation, not a mechanical failure)

Be great to get your thoughts on all of the above. As expected not happy given this is a land rover warranty and i have purchased the car from a dealer 8 months ago.

This is happening in real time so I'll keep everyone updated on progress when customer services ring me back.

That's just poor service. Not all dealers are the same. I had a similar problem on a full fat with flickering headlamps. Guy salmon said "supposed to do that sir, it's characteristic" where as stratstone correctly diagnosed a fault and replaced both headlamps.

I definitely wouldn't accept ANY of these excuses except maybe the gearbox, with a caveat. A faulty gauge is a faulty gauge. Modification that makes it work is also called a 'repair'!

I would tell them you'll pay for the software update for the gearbox provided it cures the problem. If it doesn't you are back to warranty claim in any case.

This kind of crap just ruins customer relations. They could learn a lot from the likes of BMW and Toyota Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

does anyone know if the approved used warranty is provided by land rover, or by a third party?
dealership says it's a third party (i think they mentioned car plan) but looking through my booklet it says that it's provided by jaguar land rover...

Just add it to the list of bad customer service from land rover.

If the gearbox has issues because of software it's not your fault, you haven't loaded bad mapping on it.

Sticky boot switch well you could say that's wear and year but if the sports not done a million miles that surely no fit for purpose luckily it's not an expensive repair.

Now the fuel gauge one is really crazy as it's under a used warranty and that's a failure of a component.

I'd be sending a good few letters of complaint, the social media works wonders too.

They will certainly feel the wrath of social media /letters of complaint soon enough.
Dealer is dropping off a hire car tomorrow. They are in limbo as warranty aren't covering it and I'm not paying for it.
One of the jobs (gear box adaptation) they have already done as they were confident Land Rover warranty would cover it. They have admitted they will need to pick the bill up for this now (dealer).

On the subject of who the warranty is with, why are Land Rover telling me the warranty is with Land Rover but in reality it's outsourced to a third party??

Does anyone know who this can be escalated to if I want to take on above the usual LR customer service girls who answers the phone??
Is there a more senior customer relations or management team?

At this rate if I get no luck it will be a job for small claims court by the looks of things.

Get in touch with Customer Relations, throw a polite tantrum and then ask to escalate to executive office as this all sounds like BS. If they feel you have been wrongly refused, they will put pressure on Carcare Plan to get work done. Software updates are not usually covered as dealership should provide this gratis if there has been an update 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱

If you read the handbook that comes with the warranty, you'll see what they state is not covered. Software upgrades aren't covered unless part of a repair to something else.

The Approved warranty is pretty comprehensive - I would have expected the compressor to be covered. Perhaps they're waiting for it to fail totally. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes seen in the hand book about software update.
As mentioned the dealer has already done this without me agreeing/authorising payment as they thought it would be covered so they are picking this up (or just not charging).

The rest is just excuses and it's hard to believe out of a list of 6 things not one they want to cover, including two obvious ones which have been covered by members here before; fuel sensor and compressor.

Thanks for the tips re escalating further.
Will keep you updated as this will no doubt happen to others.

I read all these issues and I am seriously considering selling my2011 RRS and going to something from Merc great service, warranty and support or Hyundai Santa Fe. Don't all be shocked but what does LR expect. Eventually it will come home to roost.

Hi I had the same problem with the fuel sender they tried the software update but this didn't work so the fuel sender in the tank had to be changed apparently theres a modded part and a fairly common fault all under the approved used warranty.

Great thanks all.
Further feedback and experiences are much appreciated. I'm going to use it to demonstrate to Land Rover that these are warranty issues.

Dealer has been great (Battersea) and today sorted me out with a complimentary Freelander Whistle

Will have to wait for next week now to see what 'contribution' Land Rover are going to offer but as mentioned I'm not prepared to pay a penny given this is all in my warranty period.

Terrible form from Land Rover.

Thanks - can someone help explain why they pay out for some customers but not others?
Lack of consistency is very frustrating.

I guess there is a difference between the way different dealers approach the warranty company. The warranty company only want to pay for stuff that's failed, generally, so if a dealer says "the part is worn" they probably say "no". If the dealer says "the part has failed" then they pay out. I think they also send out assessors to check that stuff does need doing. Maybe it depends on a combination of things.

You have to remember that the warranty is an insurance policy. As with all insurance policies, the company want to avoid paying out if at all possible - it's their job to not pay out, if you see what I mean. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
