Seriously rrstdv8 you would sit at a red light while an emergency vehicle is behind you trying to get to an emergency?

Now there is a world of difference between pulling foward through a red light to let them through and driving off into oncoming traffic hence potentially causing another emergency situation.

We could debate it all day but each of us make our own decisions and live with what happens after it. The thing is if you do sit at the lights at red blocking he emergency services, then because of that action emergency services are a few seconds late therefore the people die your never going to know about it but that's what would be going through my mind!

At no point, 'til now, have I said I wouldn't try to let them through if I was the only car in front at a red. I've just been letting people know that there may be consequences. Always good to make reasoned decisions, especially where there are consequences.

As it happens, if I knew there was a camera then I probably wouldn't pull through it. If I knew there wasn't a camera then I'd carefully shuffle forward if I could do so safely.

Might sound like I don't care because of that, but then, as first on scene at a bad crash whilst others were running around aimlessly, I climbed in to a crashed car and stopped a front passenger from potentially suffering a broken neck by supporting their head and talking to them to stop them moving. That was an interesting few minutes, I can tell you...especially when the driver decided he was getting out of the car even though his lower leg was pointing 45degrees to the side. The scream as he moved it was quite loud, shall we say.

We all have to make our decisions and we should do so in a considered way, not in a knee-jerk way. Watch how some people appear to panic when a blue lighter comes up behind them - they're as likely to have an accident getting out of the way and thus cause more issues for the emergency services. That's why the emergency services say "don't break the law to let us through" - they have to pick up the pieces. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The circumstances of the road and traffic can vary so widely that any generalisation could be miles from reality.

At least the government are looking at the law regarding a 'Good Samaritan's' actions and protection from litigation.

When my youngest was born he was premature and spent weeks in Hospital on life support - at one point we were told to get the Hospital chaplain to baptise him as they didn't think he was going to make it. Eventually he got through it and we brought him home but not long after he had some breathing problems and we rang the doctor for advice. While on the phone he got worse so we jumped in the car and headed for the main hospital. Half way there he stopped breathing and turned Blue so I headed for a nearer Hospital with A&E - this was before mobile phones. A Doctor grabbed him and told the Nurse he wanted Blues & Twos immediately. He was placed in an oxygen unit for transfer to the main hospital. There wasn't enough room in the ambulance so I was to follow them as everything was looking ok now he was stabilised.

We drove in convoy for the first part at normal pace but then they switched on everything and up went the speed. I stuck to the back of that ambulance as though it was towing me and practically abandoned my car as they ran into the hospital. At that point I heard a voice shouting me to stop and noticed a Police car behind me. I was asked for my keys and told to wait but I really didn't care - I just wanted to know what was happening with my Boy! The policeman could see how upset I was and said he would be speaking to me later but I never heard anything. With hindsight it was stupid what I did but if it happened again - could I sit at a junction and wait for a green light - I'm not sure I could
