Service Required Message

I don't normally look at info screen when I start the beast but noticed yesterday "Service Required" came up but only done 9000 miles and thought I am not due a service until 16/07/2014. There are no countdown days shown either Confused

Reading the handbook looks like I am mistaken on miles/months -

Quote:
Depending on the
type and style of driving that the vehicle is
subjected to, the indicator may display a
service message at a shorter distance than
shown in the Service Interval Plan. The OIL
indicator will illuminate if an interim oil check is
required.

I am now worried how long this message has been coming up - why doesn't it have a more obvious warning such as a spanner symbol or warning triangle like the Censored low washer fluid that burns your retina until you get so desperate you consider pulling over on the hard shoulder and peeing in the bottle to get rid of it so you can actually see properly at night Rolling Eyes

Anyone else had this message before 12 months Question Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Presumably towing a tin tent will have an effect... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Had mine done a couple of months ago after this message came on, it was a little early. Can't be my driving style as I only drive it 3 months of the year and I don't have a heavy right foot. Mind you that could be the wife Laughing
I was told by the dealer not to worry about as it can come on early, as this should be set during the PDI ?
Also said you have 60 days to get it done after the message comes on so presumably they can check !

I don't know when it first came on but in view of everything I've experienced from dealers and reading comments I believe the clock wasn't reset on pdi and is probably working from day built or vehicle first started Rolling Eyes

Will need to speak to dealer or lrcs to make sure warranty isn't compromised if I wait until 12 month from registered or looks like service every 10 months Evil or Very Mad

Our mini had a menu and told how many 1000 miles/date service, brake pads etc needed and it went 2 years between services Banging Head Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Looks like LRs get out clause is as said before,"depending on style of driving" do you do a lot of short journeys /town driving?
And as RRSTDV8 says and it's not being funny, towing will be taken into consideration too, no doubt the computers on board can work out what state your oil will be like with mixed driving.
I do 12k miles a year on average and in a previous ML it always came up short with services, but at least it showed the mileage till next service for 3 or 4 seconds once ignition was on. The RRS manages a full year and is serviced then whether the mileage is low or not.

I wondered about the towing (only done about 1000 of 9000 miles with van on) - I live in a rural area so don't do lot of short journeys or sit in traffic much and work from home so used mainly weekends/days off Confused

Service clock reset at PDI appears to be a possibility and provided no signs of leaks/warning lights/performance issue, etc been told it should be ok until 12 months anniversary. I just don't want to risk void warranty so may get service done early for peace of mind - does anyone know if system records date message was activated first Question Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Just read http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/owners/s...servicing/ and this does not mention "Service Required" message Rolling Eyes

I read this as 12 months/16000 miles would be ok Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Within the diagnostics of the car, it can be seen how many days/miles it is until its next service, how many days/miles over the "deadline", when it was last reset (days/miles)

My understanding is the service message should be reset at PDI, and/or when the car is first registered.

If your car was a pre-reg, then the PDI may have been carried out several months prior to you buying the car, and therefore, the service indicator would show up within the 12 month period, regardless of miles driven

Cheers D Mikey Thumbs Up

It wasn't pre registered - log book shows date registered as date I picked it up. If I take trip to dealer wonder if they would hook it up to diagnostic and check date it was reset just to be on safe side Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
