Claus, if you are used to the scenery of Norway, much of Scottish West Coast will look quite familar (but "feel" different due to the midgies and cheap beer ). If you are looking for something to contrast with home, can I make the following suggestions. Firstly, linger a while in Newcastle. It truely is a vibrant city and well worth a day and a night looking around the historic heart of the town and the amazing Quayside area with its art galleries, music centre and spectacular bridges plus amazing night life . If you want somewhere to stay, you are welcome use our flat in town which is unused at present. Just PM me if you want. Secondly, drive slowley up the Northumberland coast, visiting a few Castles (Warkworth, Alnwick, Dunstanborough, Bamburgh and Holy Island), linger on a few beautiful sandy beaches (Sugar Sands, Duridge Bay) and take in Alnwick Gardens. Thirdly, drive North accross the border then through the heart of Edinburgh and visit Leith Docks area, before setting off over the Firth of Forth Bridge. Fourthy, drive up the A9 and travel through Crief, then over "the hill road" to Loch Tay, follow the road on the South Side of the loch and have lunch at a fine hotel 5 miles before Killin. Head West over Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe, into Fort William, and take the Mallaig Road stopping at beaches at Arisaig. Take ferry from Mallaig to Isle of Skye and visit the Cuillin Mountains (walking around the headland from Glen Brittle if the weaher is fine). Return to mainland on the Skye Bridge then drive over to Glen Elg (great hotel and historic Broch with spectacular views back to Skye). I could go on, but suggest from there Northwards you cannot really go wrong ..... Enjoy. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini Disco 4 TDv6 HSE Ipanema Defender 90, 200tdi CSW |
